Prince live on The Tonight Show [Prince youtube snip - luv4u]
As the banner at the top of the Prince forum states:
"Please do not post any Prince/Assoc. Artists videos from sites such as YouTube, MySpace etc. This is strictly prohibited for legal reasons, and we ask that all Org members please respect this. Note: Violating posts will be removed. 'Repeat offender' accounts will be deleted - permanently. You have been warned! The same goes for fake tracklists, attention-seeking 'rumor' threads etc - don't!" - luv4u

Oh, good. Now he'll know exactly where to go to have it taken down.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

yes, we cannot post any links to any of his videos because he'll take them down. But I'm not sure if he can take this one down because this footage belongs to the Tonight Show, if I'm not wrong.

prince does not and probably will never realise just how much youtube can help him gain more fans and sell more albums/ Its best not to post links otherwise he will try his best to take them down.

ASAP I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

It is ashame it will eventually pulled down. That was a great little peformance from him, his voice and that song sounds so much better live.

I never understood this. It's not like he hasn't had the chance a year ago. Besides he doesn't even come here.

Someone doesn't know how to read the BIG FLASHING HIGHLIGHTED WARNINGS at the top of the forum.

A good one, but not his best. There is a boot dedicated to his many appearances on The Tonight Show, some good stuff on there.

... for thoz people who look at YouTube, perhaps. It's not like the Mpls Genius is 'hurting' for $ and he could care less about YT.com. Personally speaking, I could care one way or the other. I just love snatching videos from YT.com and uploading em to my facebook page and groups. I also have to admit that if it weren't for YT.com, I would've never seen some of the related artist videos / music that was written by Prince, so you do have a 'partial' point ... LoL Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

LOL
Could've at least posted TBODP...jus sayin

Erm, no. It's more than a partial point. YouTube generates cash for artists on the basis of promotion alone. Who do you think people make music videos for nowadays? Not MTV... It's all YouTube (and now, Vevo). There's a reason Lady Gaga's Bad Romance has like a million billion views on YouTube and there's a reason why that guy from the Bed Intruder song made upwards of $60,000 off that minute and a half song.

I can understand your point Spinlight but, as I am older and not of the younger generation that is of the digital age where they talk about their new CD from say Green Day but, I still call them albums and not CDs ... LoL
I am a YT.com watcher too but, I typically do not go outside the scope of the artist or genre that I like: Prince & The Related Artist, Golden Age Hip Hop and a few Neo-Soul artist here and there that I know about. You should see my Favorites on YT.com, not much diversity from what I've just said. I know I'm an oddity when it comes to my music because 95% of the music I listen to, is Prince & The Related Artist.
Point made Spinlight ... [img:$uid]http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/4.gif[/img:$uid] Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

After all these yrs folks still try to wrap their minds around why Prince doesn't do the YT thing? Keep pushin the point that he'll make more money from it & he'll do it --- mmmhmm! Then others contradict their fact bout how all lil dude want is $$$...but if that were so, won't he have freely open up his floodgates of vids & music to YT?? I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

I question why you find it so difficult to put together.
Prince doesn't want anyone else to get a dime along the way, you dig? He wants paid first and up front. The world doesn't work like that.

Yep, thats how it is. FUNKNROLL! "February 2014, wow". 'dre.

Hmm, that's true ... What job or profession pays you before you do so said 'job' or 'work'. Musicians are paid different though. They get advances and get paid upfront and most of them make their $ with touring and such, if I remember correctly. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

That's not the only point Prince is trying to make. Prince thing is an artist should get paid for their work, plain and simple. If you're putting up albums and videos of artists and people are watching them, that's fine.
But now they got technology like the former Dirpy.com (RIP) where they can turn YouTube videos into MP3s. So if a person wanted to, they could take the entire Purple Rain, Planet Earth or Controversy album from Youtube and got themselves a brand new shiny purple Prince album.
And that's what the artists won't get paid on, and that's one of the points Prince is trying to make and that's why most likely, certain videos will get taken down.
The other issue could be maybe Warner Music Group taking down some videos as well. I said some. Like posting Purple Rain up there in parts; WEA will take that down.

most people are not going to use youtube to get mp3s. Its easy for anyone to get those albums using rapidshare, megaupload etc. I doubt most people are going to spend that much time converting a youtube video into mp3 when they can simply download the stuff from a thousand sites
People who download music illegally are going to get it one way or the other. But youtube will help prince since it will introduce his music to a whole new bunch of fans (especially younger ones).

I understand and get wat y'all sayin as well...but my thing is he's probably alright wit how it is for him or he would've did the YT thing already. No sense repeating the point of his greed & his failure to make more $$$ through YT. Anyone with a proper functioning brain can see that. He's a seasoned fowl already...his brain's hard already. Dissectin it everytime ain't gonna make him change his mind. Don't let it take up so much of your brain energy [Edited 1/13/11 7:07am] I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

Pardon me! I was just trying to recognize. I know the policy. But this is a TONIGHT SHOW video. This is not something that is owned by Prince. Music is for lovers.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It only took the moment I said it and moved on. I used to be in a music group that did Hip Hop and we put out a single and had a few gigs. I was just thinkin' back on how we were paid, let alone YT.com didn't exist back then. MTV was 'it' for music back then. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

huh yeah he does own it. he owns the words and music. now NBC might have part ownership so they could re-broadcast it. but prince owns the songs.
and what happens is prince's people (who DO come here) often see such posts and then go to the site it is posted on and have it removed from there too. It can also get the org shut down.
so it is really important to NOT given any indication of where to find any videos or bootlegs.
even saying you saw a given clip on a given web site is a no no. as that tells people where to find it.
