I think when Terence Trent D'Arby first appeared he threatened to steal the crown but he was really a pretender, albeit a good one!

2. By music style...

As far as genius and similarity in music, the only person who comes close is Stevie Wonder. The richness of the vocal layerings and multiple instruments thing is quite similar and they're both very funky and have a lot of soul. And PERHAPS Jimi Hendrix in looks and the sexual shebang. And early James Brown...he was a definite precursor to Prince.

Don't let me hear ANYONE say Michael Jackson. He may also have been influenced by James Brown, like Prince, but Prince and Michael Jackson predominently singing falsetto is where the similarity barely begins and ends.

Very true. I think Sananda is even a lot more complex than Prince. And you are also right that he didn't copy Prince's style nor the music. But nevertheless there are many similarities between the two IMO. They are both real artists, very very talented in many different ways and both don't get the props that they should (especially Sananda). On some pictures they really do look very much alike, but in person, there's not much resemblance left (Sananda is 6'1)
With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Yeah, I suppose I meant he threatened to upstage Prince as the one man genius of the time, not as copying Prince's style. I think TTD said he was inspired by Prince to release what he wanted rather than a corporate big seller, hence neither Fish nor Flesh. Although I've never listened to it.

Does anyone remember that cat named Georgio. That guy wanted to be Prince so bad and the lightskin guy from Shalimar(after Hewitt left) Nicky something or another. He was friends with Prince. Andre Cymone wants to be Prince really bad too. Bilal one of those guys too. Hell, there are so many Prince imitators, you would think he'd number one on the charts.

As far as the look, there was this guy named Georgio who looked exactly like Prince (style 1987-1988) back in he 80's who had dance hits like "Tina Cherry, Lover's Lane, Bedrock, and my fav Sexapeal", which was actually rumored to have been given to him by Prince.

As far as producing prolifictly, I'd have to say Babyface, Teddy Riley, Puff Daddy(p diddy), as far as his contemporaries. They all had a sound of their own.

Talent wise he is untouchable. Ego wise he is untouchable. This I feel always hindered his success in the 90's. In 1991 he was poised to repeat his Purple Rain success, Having Three LP's pass the 3mill mark in as many years. (Batman, D&P, and O)+>)

I remember the first time I saw Lenny Kravitz. He appeared on ~The Arsenio Hall Show~ He was almost as hot as Prince. He had a bit of the same intense energy that Prince has and he rocked.

Please note...I said ~Almost as hot~ and ~a bit of~

Prince is one of a kind.
I'm firmly planted in denial
