Do you think P pays the Band's bill while staying at in NYC? Just curious. Wonder do they have to pay their hotel out of their salary or is that separate? They did the last concert 12/29/10, next one 1/18/11, thats a pretty expensive hotel bill unless they fly home come back a few days before the 18th for a few rehearsals? [Edited 1/13/11 22:40pm]

They all flew down to Turks and Caicos over New Year's, right?
I bet Prince pays for some of that, if not all of it.

I would imagine Prince and his people pay for hotels/flights etc. Bandmembers and crew etc cannot be expected to pay their own hotel bills and flights.

You never know with P | |

Prince has to pay all expenses while on tour. He contracts this people who are in his band. And after that he'll write his expenses off his taxes.

They probably fly home during the break, but are paid a retainer so that they can be called back at any time. There is no way that Prince is going to pay for a month of hotels in NYC when they aren't needed. That wouldn't be very smart.
My guess is that they are on a retainer and are paid that and a daily stipend to cover meals, etc. if they stay.
Many of Prince's people would fly home during a break of 3-4 days on other tours. I imagine it is the same way with several weeks of down time. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. I've always wondered this, Thanks for asking it, but I've always thought he took it out of their checks lol.
I think he deducts it or it's part of his expenses because he did hire these musicians, and you sorta are responsible to transport them. But all that extra stuff comes out of their tab, lol thats why he flies first class and they fly coach lol.

Prince is not giving his autograph to anybody if I'm not mistaken. So if you'll show up there his BG will kick you ass...twice.

They DEFINITELY fly home (or to Minneapolis) between the long breaks between the concerts. These are contracted employees so expenses are paid by the employer and as someone mentioned the employer writes off expenses. I'm sure P also pays them a per diem during touring dates. Get the funk up!

I always wondered this myself. I'm going to guess and say Prince probably pays for their hotel fees, not sure about travel expensives. But he probably does at least while they are in the concert city and between dates if they are consecutive since I've seen them all in a van together. They probably have to share rooms! lol
I doubt he pays for it during the off time though, tax right off or not. After the show, they are probably allowed to leave until its time for rehearsals of the next show. I was actually discussing with a friend earlier what the salaries of these folks may be. Not trying to be nosy, but I'm curious at to what a band like this costs and why his band is so slim these days. Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Wow, an actual interesting thread on prince.org, with content and room for discussion. Amazing. In a time of shitty threads consisting of A.) ridiculous imaginary scenarios, B.) one sentence statements that you can only say "ok" to, or C.) terribly written personal anecdotes nobody cares about, this thread actually follows basic Internet post quality standards Everyone could learn a thing or two from how this thread is constructed.

They definitely fly them home if they aren't needed. Their hotels and flights are paid for by whoever is putting on the concert, be it Prince or a charity or whatever. They're workers and are on the same deal as a traveling salesman. They also get a per diem for meals and incidentals, in addition to whatever salary they're paid.

No, I believe that was misreported. From what I understand, Prince was still in NYC on 12/31, he went to a Sharon Jones and Dap Kings show at Best Buy Theater (formerly Nokia theater, in disguise) and then later called Sharon Jones and asked them to open for him on Jan. 18. That's what one of the DK singers is saying. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Do Wendy and Lisa contributing to the recording process of an album not count as contracted employees? Cuz he wanted them to pay for their own travel and other arrangements when he asked them to come work on Roadhouse Garden. Curious.
