21 Nights for $5! Walking past the coffee table books section at my local Borders today I saw that P's 21 nights was on clearance for $4.99!
Snapped that mother up in about a half a sec.
The book is nice and all but to have the CD is off the chain.
Man, they was playin' everything with a triple funky vibe. Lovin' it.
Anyhoo... if you have a Borders near you, I would guess that you would have this deal waiting for you too.

I remember when I first got it for $30, as a gift of course, but geeze, now it's basically a giveaway. Oh the times... Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! ![]()

And it wasn't what I expected either, the pictures were nice and all...but I was hoping for a different focus. More Prince, less scenery. Oh well, enjoy!

For the price I paid, it really sucked as a book. A bunch of pictures of nothing. About as bland as the DVD that came with the Deluxe Edition of U2's No Lunch On The Horizon. Ok, at least U2's DVD had the music in the background...but the 21 Nights CD was musically pretty good, actually. The songs were more of Prince's awful habit of singing the first verse of a song, and then just screwing it up, but the band was actually pretty good for most of the extended jams. I would've loved for proper versions of these songs, but seeing Prince live lately means you get:
A bunch of remakes A bunch of lead vocals by backup singers
Remember the Tamar Tour of 2006? I know some of you out there were defending that like it was some ground breaking moment. Just Prince wasting his time on another project that he would drop before it got released.
If Prince would've spent more time on his own legacy...he would be respected along the Beatles and U2 as Media Darlings and among the biggest hitmakers ever. Sadly, only the diehards know how great he is. His career has been like a fantasy basketball team with Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson that would only win 2 championships in 10 years...great...but missing something. Damb. If only everyone else knew what most of us on this site know.
Don't confuse my light negativity with that of Bart Van Halen. At least I love most of Prince's studio recordings, and the majority of his live tours...but I also will talk junk when Prince screws up.

The CD definitely makes up for what the book lacks. $5 is a monster steal!!!

It's been $5 at Borders for about a year. I've got 7 sealed copied sitting here, waiting for the day that Borders runs out of supply, to sell on eBay. Because I know the minute it's no longer available, there will be people coming on here wondering where they can get it. But as it is, I don't think Borders will ever run out of $5 copies. This book had to have had the largest print run of any book in history, damn it

^^ It's the same in the UK, they are everywhere for £5 (and under). I have a few sealed copies that i don't think i will ever be able to sell any time soon.

I don't think there is anything wrong with critically analyzing Prince's career - good moves and bad moves. However, considering that he is black and not conciliatory, he would never be the "media darling" that the Beattles or U2 are. It just wasn't going to happen no matter what he did. I think that overall, Prince has had more hits than U2, but I don't have numbers to prove it. However, taking into account his own chart history and that of other artists he's written for, I think that he probably outweighs them there. Although, that is neither here nor there. I just don't know any major black artist in history who has ever received the kind of praise that a white artist has - regardless of talent or output. Conversely, I don't know any major white artist that has been vilified as much as any black artist. That's just reality as I see it.

i found it in blockbuster last year for about $15 i think. the humongerous book isnt very interesting, but the cd is great. except whole lotta love. sounds like they didnt rehearse that one at all.
and about lotusflower collecting dust in target, i saw that last year too. two or three stacks of at least 10 of them for $5 each. sad, cause i love that album... those albums. ![]()

One Night Alone Live - overpriced and underwhelming Live At The Aladdin - average (at best) video quality and the show was severely edited 21 Nights - slightly overpriced average book with decent (at best) single cd, but nothing to write home about Plus a stream of a live song or two here and there over the years with no real logic behind them that anybody other than Prince understands.
His recent live releases have not been highlights (for me, anyway). Especially when there is so much "out there" that IS really good (sometimes even great).
