its more the carpel tunnels really..less typing the less my wrists will hurt! i grew out the h part. still the add makes me not read the really long posts. i just scroll after awhile. i don't see why i need to worry about punctuation and all that stuff when i can get my point across without it. it's not like i'm writing a term paper for a grade. this drives my good friend corryn crazy. she's a sp/ed teacher too!

It's your prerogative to use it. Don't make excuses...

I was just amazed at the people who thought Prince invented it! lol

The OP was relating it to texting....

Not everyone who uses text messages is "versed" in Prince-speak.

The more attention that Prince received, the more people went back to check out his back catalogue of music and discovered his weird shortcuts for words....his relevancy in popular culture cannot be denied or the influence diminished.

Not everyone is versed, as you say, however, everyone is influenced by popular culture.

A few can move mountains.

Prince invented shortcuts for words....if not, he certainly is the one who made it popular.

Again, i ask, who did this before '79?

Dez Dickerson. The one, who Prince lifted it off of.

I don't think Prince invented it, but I do recall in '84 or '85, seeing a video for Culture Club's 'I'll Tumble 4 Ya', and thinking, "Who the fuck do you think you are? You can't do that '4' shit! That's Prince's thing!" lol

I'm only going to say this once: If your carpal tunnel is so bad that you need to use Princebonics just to drop a couple characters, you need to quit texting so much.

You mean aside from the fact that it's stupid coming from anyone but Prince, himself?

When I first started posting, I was all "fammy" and thought that I should use it around here...

Boy, did I learn fast... lol

It's not necessary, and most of the time it's hard to read.

Wrong.

There is being a fan of the man's music...

Then there's being obsessed with his looks, clothes, hair, who he's dating, what he eats,.... and thinking that you need to write like that... FAM.

Being on here just means that I like it better than other sites.

Okay, okay... joke's over. Not laughing.

Soooooo not a FAM. neutral

If anything, being on here means that I'm bored and/or procrastinating.

I just happened to pick this site to do it on.

lolz, Don't bother. The people who are too thick-headed to accept everyone's differences (aka the "Fams") always try to brainwash or condescend. You won't convince them otherwise, so why try? smile

No. There was life before Prince's music career, and during and will be afterwards. The majority of the world, a good 99.9% have no interest in him and his music.

Prince did not having anything to do with it becoming mainstream, not even a lil something. Its to do with money and laziness.

There's no way Prince invented that lmao.. that was a big thing in 60s & 70s cartoons and children's materials (books, coloring books, activity magazines, etc.) to type numbers and letters in place of words.. even if you're simply saying he was the first musician to use this cutesy way of typing that's also false. If anything he lifted a lot of his practices from the old funk records like Sly and P Funk (which had titles foreshadowing superfunkycalifragisexy)

The less naive you are the more you realize Prince didn't really necessarily invent anything, he was very much a product of the trends of the time, though he did well at taking trends such as funk rock, r&b and new wave and combine them to come up with some cool sounds (he wasn't even the only 80s artist to do this though, he was just really good at it).. even the crazy Purple Rain outfits and hairdo you can trace back to the 60s mod scene as well as Hendrix and Little Richard, the dance moves from James Brown, the bass playing from Bootsy and Graham, etc, etc.

See thread "Cant make you love me" for example....

The energy in this field's been known to flicker lights, aight

Asong with no name, acapella moans and a bridge of silence

Undeterred nevertheless a masterpiece on butterscotch thighs

Turn off the lights, turn off the lights
