I love hearing about the younger fans and how they "discovered" Prince. I got into Prince when I was fifteen back in 1996 when I picked up the Hits 1 and 2 (but not the b-sides) and Chaos and Disorder. That was fourteen years ago and I still feel like a newbie! It seems like most folks around here go back as far as Purple Rain or earlier.

It IS sad, indeed...but I never lost hope :
Let's see...I heard "When doves cry" and "Kiss" since I was 5 or so. Those were the ONLY 2 songs I heard on the radio, (or the only songs I recognized were from Prince) When my mom started playing Prince songs in the kitchen I was like "You're listening to Prince??? Not AGAIN!" But then I head a song I immediately fell in love with... "Raspberry Beret" From then on I went to youtube and put that song on repeat. (I did this so secretly because I already told my mom I wasn't into him). Then I clicked on a bunch of other songs, and listened to them into the night. I googled him like crazy because I thought he sounded so cool and sexy. Seriously I fell in love right then and then in August I found this place.
I'm a fan because his songs are catchy and have variety and I think his confidence is sexy..

I started liking Prince a little over a year ago, it feels like it's been much longer, I got tired of my generation's/today's music and started going back, I had always liked Adore but after I saw Purple Rain for the 1st time I was hooked, I started listening to nothing but Prince, yep now I can't go a day without him We could have big fun 💜

Purple Rain introduced me to the "Purple World" in '84 when I was 11 or 12 been there ever since. Have never felt the need to leave, & I never will!!!!!
So here is some more of my love for Prince:
Prince once tried 2 change his name 2 a symbol so that ur'e mother couldn't find him in the phonebook!

Yeah...
Got into Princey 2.25 years ago to be exact Although it feels much much much longer with reading, studying, watching, and listening to the man. it's kinda sad that it's that short. Prince and Purple Rain were those sort of words that you heard in the background while u were up to something else in life.
But when I was 15, I noticed that the movie Purple Rain kept coming on VH1. So I'm like "what is this movie about." So I recorded it and watched it from the beginning with my mom and big brother. It was amazing and we were hooked from the opening organ of Let's Go Crazy until the ending of the wishful message of May U Live 2 C the Dawn at the end of the blue-screen credits. I was even surprised when Mom sang the lyrics to Darling Nikki, I was like "What??" and then jaw-dropped when I he humped the stage speaker.
But anyway, that's when I relized what real music was and striped my cool-at-the-time myspace clean of silly so-called artists like Chris Brown and Ciara and plastered Prince pics and music all over. I went straight to google, found forums, joined them, listened to and watched all types of rare Prince music & videos, started downloading, and talking to other Prince fans. And when I finally got some money, I started buying hard drives, vinyl, posters, books, CDs, DVDs, and other Prince merchandise (and still am). But I have yet to see him in concert, which I plan to do very soon
But my unforgettable moment in my Prince history was when my family and I were in dead silence listening to and watching the Purple Rain performance from the movie. We were genuinely listening and absorbing the song into our souls, literally. I'll never forget that. Then he snapped us out of the trance and made us smile and groove with I Would Die 4 U and Baby I'm A Star. Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

[img:$uid]http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/39.gif[/img:$uid] Some people invest a lil too much time into Prince as a person (and have no idea who he is personally).
Keep in mind some of us are more then just 'casual' fans and have been fans since his first album. (I've been an enthusiast of P's music since 1996). Makes me like the 'casual' fan more then the hardcore ... Sometimes ... Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

a well times thread. Despite all the criticisms here ,including from me, I'll always love the man hugely. Too many good memories outweigh the bad.

Interesting how so many young people have just discovered P. I was 8 years old when my bro turned me on to Soft and Wet. It wasn't until Purple Rain when I was a teen that I really started to follow him. Prince is such a great artist. His music is is a trip! I can listen to a jam of his and find it to be average. Later on when I give it more time I find that it is a masterpiece! That's what I love about his music. Aftershow's are the best! Intimate setting and upfront. I hope we have many more years of music from Prince. I dig this thread because there is too much negativity when it come's to Prince. Give it up, show love!

I am always up for these kind of topics...these are what we need to see more of! I love showing Prince some love. The man deserves so much of it, he is truly amazing and beautiful on all levels.
Purple Rain hooked me when I was a little girl, first song I learned all the words too. At 3 years old, I used to sit in my mom's bed and sing it....loudly...every morning while all the other kids got ready for school. Then I'd watch the movie, then go dance to the Prince album, which I remember my mom had on the turn table alot! She sorta slipped off the bandwagon right around D & P, but did love TMBGITW. I kept it up thank goodness and am now so proud to be passing it on to this families next generation! Prince music will live on!! Best body of work from any musician EVER! Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol
