SO YOUNG....SO STUPID

I am in a huge slump because I am not going to have the opportunity to go to New York, and see Prince live for the first time ever. It makes me cringe even more, to know that I had an opportunity to attend a few years ago, and flat out turned it down. When I was younger my parents punished us by locking us in a room, and blasting what we call "old school," and I am saying Prince was played the most. I vowed to never listen to anything old school for the rest of my life, so I went through this hardcore gangsta rap phase. Well, 2004, Musicology rolls into town, and I am 18 at the time, and one of my good friends tells me he is doing security for the Musicology tour the day before. I'm like oh ok....whatever. Then he calls me a few hours before the show, and tells me Prince ran over his foot with a golf cart, (he goes into a little more detail about Prince, and how he really is a nice/sexy motha...shut yo mouth,) anyway he proceeds to tell me he got extra tickets and V.I.P. passes and wanted to know if I wanted to join him. Me being stupid, and scarred from my past, I said heeeelllll nooooo, and that was that. 2007, I start playing my guitar and bass again, and lo and behold who plays the Superbowl Halftime show.... I instantly fell in Love and called my mother and thanked her for our "punishments". I cleared my I-tunes and started buying CDs..."old shcool Cds" (especially Prince.) It was like I was being converted. I guess what I am saying is I regret not going in 04' and I am at the point of selling a kidney to see this show! Am I the only dope that had a chance to experience something like this, and totally blew it. Dang! To be so young and so stupid.<img src=" />

You're not the only one.

2002, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Prince was coming to town on the One Night Alone tour. Prince has never, ever (ever never?) played Edmonton, and he never will again. You may recall this was the tour where he was doing the live soundchecks for members of the npgmc, of which I was one.

My friend had a friend who worked for Ticketmaster, and could get us seats for the front row. But, alas, the show was on a weeknight. And me, up-and-coming musical theatre actor that I was, was in a running production of Evita. And in theatre, you can't just call in sick - you might as well just quit the production... 'cause anything short of a broken leg, you'd better be on that stage. So, I did my duty as a young (or not so young!) thespian and politely declined.

Did I mention the venue was about three blocks from my own fucking home? No, I don't think I did.

Well, I dutifully performed my spear-carrying duties in Evita that night, knowing that my lifelong musical idol was performing across town, on a stage that I myself had performed on. And did it all work out for the best? Did I cement my own illustrious performing career? No. Shit, I'm not even anywhere near theatre anymore.

People, wake up! If you've got the chance to go see Prince, do it! biggrin

You are not alone,

Same here, but I wouldn't sweat it too much, if not now, maybe later..

Hopefully, If not I'm going to be depressed for a very long time.

I am missing all the the New York dates because I'm in a play that opens next Thursday. I love seeing Prince - but I love being onstage more. cool

I had a hunch you would have been. wink And there I was, schlepping at the Mayfield.

After my show, I rushed down there. I got to see a bus leave the back entrance, but that was about it.

Definitely one of the top 5 regrets of my life. sad

The dude that sells all kinds of vinyl at the flea market I check out said he tried to approach Prince and all he got was a copy of the Watch Tower. I found this out when we were discussing Prince stuff and vinyl.

LOL! It was my friend's foot. He is a man's man, and he said he had an experience kind of like Jaime Foxx, when the incident occurred. He told me he grabbed Prince by the arm while the cart was still going, and when P looked him in the eyes, my friend apologized to him! He was like..."I just apologized to a motha f***ka that hurt me...but it was like he was so sexy I didn't want to let him go!" I just rolled on the floor laughing.

That's what I was thinking. Couldn't be bothered to read that block of text.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
