Future Soul Song

Does anyone else here think this is the best song he's written of the past 10 years, bar none? I honestly think it's as good as the best songs from his heyday. It's so beautiful and awe-inspiring to me. His performance of it in Copenhagen was particularly amazing and reminded me that Prince still has that spark that drew me to him.

Thoughts?

I love this song, I really like the lyrics and you are right, the performance in Copenhagen was magical!! He just appeared on stage and did this amazing song with a great beat. It was HOT!! I really wish he would do this song more often, it really is a gem. Its high up on my playlist. Love when he says "In the absence of fear and con-trol..." I don't what it is, but love the way he says that! I think its one of his best songs of this soon ending decade for sure...

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Brilliant song..... Although, I would have left this verse out..

And in the absence of fear and control
Is the sound of the surrendering soul
Louder than the dogmatic persecution
I sing it like you got that right

Naah. Not really.

The verses sounds rather promising, but the chorus falls flat (thats one of my main issues with his 00´s output. His inability to give a song a strong chorus when it needs one).

I do not believe there are songs here or there that are BETTER then a previous song. It's all a part of the journey being a enthusiast of P's music.

Future Soul Song is a great song. & to say again, I thought or think that 20Ten sounds like a part II of 1999 ...

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

THE only good song on 20ten and I agree, maybe his best song in well over 10 years. Sounds like a tune from his 80's heyday. Needs some screaming and more guitar...I also thought he should have ditched the middle section. The lyrics are clunky.

To me personally the only really good song on 20ten is Laydown.

Some here blame it to be his take on a Black Eyed Peas-kind of song, but i personally think its a continuation of the kind of thing he did with Face down, a rather left-field, indy type of hip-hop with some rock mixed in.Maybe its just the other way around: Black Eyed Peas did 'steal' this kind of music and become popular with it.

While the majority of 20ten is undercomposed and underproduced, Laydown at least has a sense of urgency and 'darkness' that is more riveting. English isn't my first language so i dont pay much attention to lyrics in the first place, but soundwise Laydown is for me the only redeeming song on his last album.

To put it short:

One of his most overrrated songs.

Forced composition, without a real chorus, without real urgency.

Its no Beautifull Ones or Adore, not even a Call my Name or Man of war, its far less.

See, I agree with this complaint by and large... but I quite like the melody of FSS's chorus. It's beautiful.

Musically yes - reminds me of a 94/95 era song

But lyrically - not really sure what he's on about on parts

Dude that's the best part of the song, then he gets geared up to go into the second guitar solo!

This definitely is one of his best songs, to me. Tremendous colors, shapes and movements. It's beautiful. It reminds me of the same song as "Planet Earth," atmospherically. But it feels more like an arrival. Very cool song.
