I Take Back What I WROTE! WOW!! People... I wrote about a week or so ago about how I wasn't necessarily looking forward to the show in NYC. I've seen Prince about 15 times before, and I felt that I didn't need to hear songs like Kiss, Purple Rain, Delirious, etc. yet again, and wanted something new and different.
Well guess what... the show was AMAZING!! MSQ, 12/18/2010.
Never again will I doubt what it's like to see the man in person. For some of us, we've been fans and followers of his music for so long that we sometimes overdose.
But I'm here to tell ya... that if Prince is a part of you... heart, body, mind and soul... you're never disappointed at seeing him live, and hearing the familiar classics.
The man is a stage genius, and the consummate professional. He gets better with age, and I think that seeing him do what he does onstage is even MORE impressive, because here's a 52-year old man... just KICKIN' it for all to see, without a care in the world of what anyone things.
He did a rendition of Kiss where he danced solo for 1:21, decked out in red. As a hetero-guy... I still couldn't take my eyes off him. His movements are just intriguing. His dancing is captivating. He's just phenomenal!
So while I still stay that I'd love to see smaller venue shows, and more non-common songs performed for the "die-hards" at these smaller, more intimate shows, there's nothing like seeing the master at work.
I'm so happy to be a fan, and an admirer of this man's body of work. We can all admit that there are a number of things that we might not like about his personality, but we can't deny that "special" is too weak to define what Prince is as an entertainer above all others.
Wow. The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

Thanks so much for your post! It is great to read something so positive and I totally agree. Especially with the part that one has to appreciate what he does at 52!!! As I said in another post recently I love his dancing, I really think it is great the way he moves nowadays. And his energy and passion is all still there ... we can be glad to not only still have him around but giving such electrifying performances as well.
I am glad you enjoyed seeing him live again!! So did I twice in Europe. And up until 13 July this year I had not been paying much attention to Prince in the last years ... which I now regret, but I just was not much into his music after the 90s. BUT - I never saw him live after 1993 ... until this year!! All it needed was one concert, Vienna, and I knew again why I was such a big fan in the late 80s and 90s!
He IS the best performer out there, and while he could surely play many other songs that I would love to hear live, I am happy to have a chance to see him on stage at all and I hope he keeps going for a long long time to come!!
So thanks again for sharing your thoughts, which just brought a big smile to my face because they express what I feel. And with that I am off to bed now ... it is almost 11 pm here in Austria. Take care!

Thank you for your views and positivity!
I only ever saw the man on the Act I tour in '93, but alas, he was just a tiny little dot on a little stage at the far end of a big, big stadium.
I hope to remedy this, one day.

I once saw Prince in Philadelphia in 2000... front row. My arms were on the stage the entire time. As he walked by, I reached up with all the others, and grazed my arm against his leg.
It was the most amazing 2 hours EVER!
You've got to see him up close. I'm probably going again in January, and paying for the good seats once again.
It's SO worth it!

Glad someone relises on this Prince hate site that Prince gets better with age. He is full of surprises. I like how he stopped dancing much for a few years and now is just shocking everyone with his energetic movements......He knows he is bad and always will be. At 52 still making new music and performing like a 20 year old. Thank u for your post. It makes me feel good that someone else here is finally getting it......This man is still a genius..... I am delightfully stunned someone changed their pre-concieved notions and ideas of Prince I salute U & I admire Ur open mindness and williness to expand Ur views . I U 4 not following that mindset that Prince can only be appreciated for what he has done & not for what he is doing now I love that he keeps refining his gifts. Prince creats an atmosphere that can make U skirm in your seat , provide undeniable sexuality, dance, funk, social commentary, humor and romance and love. He is so the 1!!! And he is still so fine and can make U all hot and bothered at his show or just by listening to his music old, new or re-styled... He is still hot and adventurous, innovative and always unpredictble, which means, he is always exciting ...he continues to grow and provide outstanding concerts and music that shows only a portion of his many different fascets of his skills, talents and energies...totally electic and unique and we are blessed to go on this "25 yrs to life making hits for yawl" journey..Thanks for appreciating that!! .U made my list for the ability to be flexble and adapt to Princes's ever expanding presentation and shades of cool... and U have to agree he is still the prince of funk (would be king if not 4 George Clinton) and always a class act. U both rock. Was it good 4 U?
Was I what U wanted me 2 B? If it's not alright...it will B Because...even when I lose...I win

Your whole post made me go
I read that "Prince is boring me" type thread you made and I shook my head at it knowing that that in a few weeks Prince would be coming to NYC and sure enough, your new thread is proof of what I knew would happen. He would make those who are losing faith in the dude believe again. Like you said, there is a lot we can critique and find fault in with Prince but in the end, it's about the music, old and new. It's about how the music makes you feel and what it does to you and when you see the man who created the music bring those songs to life on stage, man it just does something to you. I know it did with me.
I haven't lost faith in Prince but in seeing the last 3 shows here in NJ/NY, all it did was reaffirm to me why I love Prince and why he is, to me, the greatest living artist out here today. The fact that he can just stand there doing nothing and make you lost every inch of your mind shows how powerful the man is. The strike of the guitar can just shock you like you touched some form of electricity and his voice can be so haunting that it touches your soul and can move you to tears. It's all those things that keep me a Prince fan. I'm happy to hear that you are excited about Prince again. A lot, and I mean a LOT of people on this site need to do what you just did on Saturday. Maybe then they'll regain the fire that they had in the past for Prince as well.
[Edited 12/21/10 7:00am] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I really hope he takes this show on the road.. Its always great to see Prince live, but I think it would be great to expose artists like Esperanza Spalding, and Jonelle Monet to other parts of the country/world as well.

What can I say... I try to be fair, and write what's on my mind.
It wasn't so much that I felt Prince was "boring me", it was more that I didn't think I would enjoy the show as much as I did, because I didn't think it would be what I wanted to see.
But it turned out that it WAS what I wanted to see. The problem is that we/I want SO MUCH from Prince. We're spoiled. We really are.
I still want that smaller setting where "not so popular" songs are peformed, but I realized that I want the hits too!
For example... I was never a fan of Cream. I didn't like it. I liked Diamonds and Pearls, and alot of the other material on that CD, but Cream never really did it for me. I was shocked when it went to #1 here in the US. Well, Prince performed Cream at the 12/18/10 show, and I was like a kid in a candy store... because I had never seen him perform it live (in person) before.
But all in all, you're right... it took that "recharging" of my Prince battery via a LIVE show. There's nothing like it.
And you're right... that may be what it takes for people to regain the fire. Videos on YouTube and other sites are one thing, but LIVE... it's a whole different ball game seeing that man do his thing.
Amazing! I'm already trying to decide if I want to spend the money to see him in January. lol We'll see. I might just have to do it!
Cheers! The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

I have to say it again - yes, seeing Prince live in concert, to be there in person, that makes all the difference in the world! There is nothing like it!! For more than ten years I was not interested enough to fly somewhere to see a Prince concert and he did not come anywhere near me, so I did not see him ... then finally he came to Vienna this year and I took the chance.
I did not expect much, it was more like "for old times sake" and because I wanted to hear my old favorite songs again ... what happened totally surprised me, because I was lost from the first moment on when he entered the stage, doing "Purple Rain" at the beginning of the concert!! That was it ... all those years that I did not care much vanished and I was back in the 80s, staring up at him and admiring this genius of a performer!!!
And the biggest surprise for me was that he was even better than I remembered him to be!! He does get better with age, I don't care what anyone says who cries about the old times and wishes he did splits again and what not. He is 52 years old and he is phenomenal. One concert and I am a bigger fan than I ever was before, he totally amazes me!!! Of course, I did not think twice about flying to Milan to grab my second chance to see him in November ... because now I know that he is worth every cent I spend on him!!
And if I had the chance I would definitely go and see him again in January!! Unfortunately, NYC is not in my budget right now ... so please go for me instead and enjoy the man!!!

exactly what I have been telling everyone when raving about his concerts!!! Prince is so incredibly talented that we only ever get to see a small part of what he is able to do. It is amazing and uncomparable.

Interesting thread ... I've been thinking in the same view as some of you when it comes to this 'Greatest Hits' tour P has been having and I know if I was there, watchin' P perform, feelin' that same energy he was putting out that I've read 'some' of the reviews about the concerts that I've been like 'meh' ... I think back on the Paisley Park Show of Oct. 2009 and I get 'chillz' from the idea of being there and experiencing it like everyone else there. I've heard the music (of the NYC / NJ) shows and I've been less enthusiastic but, if P made his way down to South Florida or by chance did a Minneapolis show I'm gonna have my a$$ there milkin' the experience and takin' it all it.
Yep Yep ... LoL Peace ... & Stay Funky ...
