The song Lovesign from the album 1800-new-funk is one of Prince's best straight up funk songs, yet it is generally forgotten about.

I dig it. I think I recall there being a video for this song too? Could be totally wrong though.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I'm listening to the Crystal Ball version. There is a video, and it's the 1-800 New Funk version.

for me the crystal ball version was far inferior. I always wondered why they bothered including it on the album.

Really? I'll have to give the 1-800 New Funk version a listen (don't have that album). I'll be back to retort shortly.

The Crystal Ball version feels simplified. Not that that is a bad thing; I think both versions have some really nice parts. I think overall the 1-800 New Funk version is stronger in terms of composition, but the Crystal Ball version has some nice instrumentation; it almost feels like it could be a reprise based track.

That could have been played at one of these NY/NJ recent concerts!

There are some spunky remixes of this track, but i just prefer the 1-800 version.
