Before he said he could get away with all that dirty stuff because God understood him.

I guess God didn't understand him anymore.

i just think he was going through personal problems at the time and needed something to help him. If it has helped him find peace, then i am happy for him.

He went through a period of questioning whether there is a God after his baby boy died, something which affected him very, very deeply. He would speak about this with Larry Graham, who convinced him to become a JW.

of i lost a kid like that i'd be pissed at god and not want to get closer and get into religion more

my family is roman catholic and some even helped open up the parishes in the area when they moved there. when my grandfather died in sept.my one aunt said "damn god i hate you right now. always testing us and giving me cancer 4 times. we lost 4 ppl in the last few months already! go pick on someone elses family!" a few of them gasped like i can't believe you said that and have faith.

i've only been to church a few times since confirmation. if i'm going to hell i'm going to hell. naaaa i'll be a ghost sticking around here haunting everyone who survives me! boo!

my uncle is born again and always sends those pamphlets to everyone...

only way i'd answer the door for a jehovah is if it was PRINCE himself. i'd listen to him give his best jesus pitch to me...

you know what they say that god tested the ones he loves most and knows you can handle it. he must really love me cause my life is terrible and i'm in constant pain.....

That was funny! I remember getting caught by them years ago. Never again! LOL But seriously, I just never heard of any reference to the Jehovah's Witnesses and Prince until the Larry Graham influence.

Prince suffers from a form of mental illness. It's not to say JW's are all mentally ill, but his decision to join stems from him just being wacky as fuck.

Thank you, PurpleLove7. Obviously I had missed this little (well, not really little!) tidbit.

Do we still agree that it was Larry's influence that encouraged him to get totally immersed in The Witnesses or do we think that his mother was an influence as well? It just seems interesting that if his mother was one for so long, he only joined after hanging out with Larry.

I think Prince was always in search of God.

Difficult life events force us us to re-evaluate our life and purpose. God, or "religion" can carve out meaning, which separates us from the materialistic world. Growing in materialism doesn't bring newfound joy but rather never ending dissatisfaction. Prince chose to be a JW because that is where his questions were answered and where things made more sense.

Was it Larry Graham's mentoring? I don't think so. Prince was always independant enough to make his own decisions. Whatever religion one joins, when one finds peace in the things higher than oneself, it is an experience that cannot compare to the realities of simple life. It is an experience beyond everyday living and provides concrete direction and virtuous purity which are always of added value to basic human life.

Some might say without religions we would have less discrimination and fewer wars.

But what would society have been like without any religion at all? It could have been far far worse.

Religion or living closer to God, encourages non egotistical living. We learn to serve others more so than ourselves. It encourages community and oneness. Yes, Man is imperfect, we tend to destroy even good things and carve our own rules; yet still to serve others and be grateful for life is always more defining to human nature than to only serve ourselves. At least, in my humble opinion that is.

I envy his faith, regardless of which church he follows. Even though I was brought up Lutheran, I don't know much about any of the churches because I never took the time to research them. Because of this, I can't be critical of his or anyone elses choice. I'm happy (maybe even envious) for anyone who has found peace in God.

GOD still understands him and the road 2 hell is paved with good intentions!

You'll get no argument out of me. In some cases when it comes to religion some people take out of it what they like and what they don't like they typically don't have anything to do with it.

(I've never held Neo-Christianity to a high standard because of reasons I won't get into).
