When was the first time......

Hey everyone!

So, when was the first time you saw Prince? What was your reaction? What did you think?

Lovesexy, Wembley Arena August 1988... Totally astounded by the show. At that point I'd been to maybe 100 gigs but mostly at theatres and clubs. Earlier that year I'd been to Wembley Stadium for the Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute and also MJ's "Bad Tour", I was rather disappointed with the Jackson gig so I wasn't expecting much from Prince although I'd heard his live shows were amazing.

The only way I can describe the gig is to paraphrase a comment from a fan interviewed on the "Prince: A Musical Portrait" short film. It really was a spiritual, almost religious experience. I'm not a religious person but for one night I really did feel that "God is alive!" To this day it remains the second best gig I've attended after seeing over 500 gigs by various bands and artists. The only gig that beat it was.......... Prince! At an aftershow at The Emporium, London in 95 (but that's another story)

In general: I saw a photo of him in UK magazine Smash Hits, circa Dirty Mind.... My initial thought was that it was a picture of Sylvester.

Oh.

I was in 7th or 8th grade. I think it was "American Bandstand" in 1980.

I thought he was weird. shrug

Live was in 1993... and I thought he was fantastic! biggrin

In general: I was 6 and saw him on the MTV awards with his booty hanging out, and I remember being confused and wondering why the little man in yellow didn't notice the hole in his trousers.

Live: Not yet, but working on it. My boyfried vows to go if he comes to Texas, I just dont want to have to pick his ass up before the first song is over.

Last Friday. Every second of it is burned into my memory and I don't think I'll ever be satisfied with any other live show. Except maybe his own a second time.

I did not see him until 2000 at the Aladdin in Las Vegas. I was blown away by his performance. I am glad I got to see him perform Darling Nikki before he stopped doing it. I went to an aftershow 4 months later at the Fillmore and have seen him quite a few times since then.

If only he would still do Darling Nikki... at least you got to see it before he stopped doing it.

...in the alley next to the Chicago Theatre... 1st of 3 nights in April 1993... My girlfriend at the time and I had tickets to the show and we were a little early... we'd walked around the corner to get hot chocolate at the Dunkin Donuts and we were on our way back to hang around out front... there was a truck and a "luxury vehicle" parked in the alley near the stage door... as we walked through the alley toward State Street a couple of people got out of the car and I didn't recognize anyone... we stood there for a second longer and then all of a sudden he was right there walking right in front of us! it was all of a split second but I couldn't believe I'd just seen him...

than that same day, we were standing outside the doors to the lobby of the theatre and he came walking out with his body guard... we knocked on the door and said something stupid like "hey Prince!!!" but he didn't turn around... then as it got closer to showtime (I laugh because showtime for Prince is never what's printed on the ticket) we were still at the door and Mayte came out to talk with a few of us... she was very nice, quiet and all smiles... I also got to meet Mavis Staples who was out there with Mayte...

This was my first Prince concert...

Way back then when presented award or nominee for BET Awards. I thought is he really that short?

Purple Rain in 2008, I thought he was overly sexy and amazing!

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!
