Does Prince use auto tune? Any examples? It seems like every live performer is using auto tune. Which among many it is used distorting the voice for those who can't sing and allows an artist to not miss a note when they sing live. To me this is the same as playing a song and lip syncing and many artists have accept using this tool.

Has Prince ever used this? If yes, can you cite examples or live concerts?

I think some songs on Lotus Flower do come to think of it. So thus, if he sung them live he probably used it as well. I am talking about throughout the show. To ensure he stays on key?

Was Auto tune around when most of these songs were?
I always thought the camille voice was just a sped up tape?

^I already know how this thread ends.
"Prince was the first artist using autotune in his songs!!!" lol

Autotune has been around since the 80s, it's what Cher used on "Do You Believe" or whatever it's called. It was kept a trade secret until semi-recently when T-Pain popularized it.

It is. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

He just started using them in recent years with the songs already mentioned. Kinda strange that he uses it, he sings perfectly in pitch and knows when he's out of tune. Autotune is for ppl that can't sing, Prince is too good for it. "The voter is less important than the man who provides money to the candidate," - Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens

I agree that a lot of lesser artists use it to hide imperfections, but I don't agree that he's too good for it. It's just a tool - no different than say a Chorus or Flange effect on a guitar. It's how you use it that determines its merit. Prince mostly uses it for an effect - an artistic choice, so to say - and not to hide "bad" singing. Debatable if Prince has EVER used it to be fair.
Some of the vocal effects he uses can sound auto tune but arnt.
3121 has multi tracked vocals, one of which is shoved through a vocoder or simlar effect unit but is defo not autotune. Its pretty fukin clever actually and why I love it.

uh no honer he most definitely uses auto tune on many tracks, it's not open for debate

he started using it heavily on 3121 I think, and yes he was quite early when it comes to jumpin on the wagon of heavy usage if we don't count Cher. I know T-Pain was a little earlier though.
