I believe Purple Rain is. I'm not too sure about UTCM and GB. I can assure you there is no Blu-ray concert out though wink

You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

You never looked very hard, it took me less than 30 seconds to find out that Purple Rain is the only Prince dvd available on blu-ray.

I wish they would put out SOTT on blu-ray. They had the HD master all ready to go for years.

Hasn't it even aired on tv in HD before? Thought I heard that somewhere.

By the way, did we ever find out why the 'U Got The Look' portion of the film looks so soft and fuzzy, even on dvd? I don't remember such a huge drop in picture quality on my old VHS, but of course, that was VHS. On blu-ray, I worry that the difference in quality might hit ya like a bucket of cold water...

I guess that this is the closest (as yet) that we have to a Sign O The Times on blu ray.

That is because the video was tacked on to the SOTT film. It was shot as a music video and added, and some of it was shot on video as opposed to the SOTT movie which was shot on film.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Kind of right... the music video was shot on film. It does not look like video (for example the Purple Rain concert is video or the Raspberry Beret or Rave 2000 concert). What happened is that instead of going back to the film, they transfered the what would appear to be the master videotape of the filmed video. I clearly remember the difference in the movie theater, although it wasn't like seeing a VHS or anything. I saw the film twice in the theater and can only hope that type of resolution will happen once again if it appears in HD again or blu-ray. It was Encore HD that showed it. Anyone know anyone that works there?

You are probably right. I haven't watched it in a while. They probably didn't go back and telecine the film but since I am not watching it I have no additional information that could confirm this. I've worked with film and video for years (that is my job), so I'd have to watch it to know. Good call.

At the time of the SOTT film's theatrical release, it was explained that the UGTL promo video portion had been inserted after adding faux film grain to it (in an attempt to match the movie print) with less than perfect results.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Considering 80's video look, it should be painfully obvious if it was shot on video and then transfered... but I clearly remember the UGoTLook video on MTV being shot on film. Even having a cinematic montage at the beginning, and being 24fps. That was before the SOTT movie was released. The "Mountains" video on the other hand was 80's video.
