A musician is eligible for the Hall Of Fame after 25 years in the business. But that doesn't always mean that the person/band are nominated right away.
Prince's first album For You came out in 1978, so he's either eligible in 2003, or in 2004 (if you consider 25 complete years). I personally think he won't get inducted until next year, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Purple Rain.

For some of the latest info on Prince and his eligibility into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, check out TheDetroitCrawl.Org's page on the Hall of Fame.
Motor Babies in Detroit were gearing up for a trip to Cleveland THIS MARCH but alas it was not to be, even though it is, technically, 25 years since For You was released. That's the eligibility requirement. Oh well, TheDetroitCrawl hopes Prince is inducted in 2004. Valen Halen is also eligible in 2004. Could you imagine a guitar jam with Prince and Eddie Van Halen??

Shoo-ins like Bob Dylan (induction year 1988 - first record 1962), Springsteen (induction year 1999 - first record 1973) the Beatles (induction year 1988 - first record which was a single in late 1962) and Led Zeppelin (induction year 1995 - first record 1969) got in during their first years of eligibility accoring to the Hall but it was 26 years after their debut recordings.

Which artists are going to be inducted this year?? I'm pretty sure its: The Police, Elvis Costello and the Attractions, ABBA, and the Patti Smith Group, Chic, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC, the Dells, and the Sex Pistols. According to a recent Associated Press report, "rounding out the 15 nominees, who had to release an album by 1978, are the Clash, MC5, Kraftwerk, the Righteous Brothers, and Steve Winwood.

The Associated Press has it wrong. the Hall defines its rules as an artist that releases their first RECORD 25 years prior. A record doesn't have to be an album. that's why the Police are getting in, since their first release was an EP in 1977.

Ahhh, no. Eddie would try firing Prince, then tell the public he quit. Without ever realizing he wasn't his singer! EVH 'nuff said. "So strange that no one stayed at the end of the Parade..." - Wendy & Lisa's "Song About" on their 1987 self-titled album.
RIAA 'nuff said. | |

Wolf- I agree - I believe it will be next year too. It IS when 25 complete years are up. I have a feeling he won't be inducted right away, but I hope I'm wrong. He deserves to be in the Hall Of Fame, even if you just consider the '80's output.
