Prince was given a name of royalty at birth. He doesn't have to proclaim any other royal titles. His birth name speaks for itself.

Michael and Prince are jointly my favorite artists of all time, but it's laughable that anyone considers "King Of Pop" to be some sort of actual honorary title or something. It's a NICKNAME, thus it cannot be "transferred" or "inherited" like it's an actual title LOL.

Michael Jackson is the King of Pop

Madonna is the Material Girl

James Brown is the Godfather of Soul

Prince is His Royal Badness / His Purple Majesty

Bruce Springsteen is The Boss

Aretha Franklin is the Queen of Soul

Courtney Love is the Goddess of Grunge

Nobody else gets to be the King of Pop just because Michael isn't with us anymore, just like nobody else gets to be the Godfather of Soul just because James died.

His Royal Badness fits perfect IMO, and he was called that well before Mike was declared the "King of Pop".

Im sure thats why Liz Taylor came up with that King of Pop shit. "How dare Prince be considered musical royalty when we have Michael!!!!!"

There was always that story of her dinner with Prince and how turned off she was that he showed up at her house with "more security than the president" or whatever she said.

no he's not. only a retard would call him that. he's not even called that on the org, and this place is full of idiots, none of which compare to the retardedness of the floons on the MJ boards though. none of them morons got within a farts pace to give him a sand dollar

he doesn't need a title, apart from for legal reasons the tabloid papers have to use a title, in which case it's "the pint sized rockstar", and not his purple sadness or anything else

You really, honestly, truly think that royalty references in the music business began and will end with Prince?

Let me introduce you to someone named Elvis Presley, who was referred to the King of Rock before Prince was even a sperm.

"His Royal Badness", It is organic and it says it all. But most importantly, that was not a publicity stunt, the music world on their own crowned him with that tittle. Long long before MJ decided to "call himself" a pop tart.

Listen to the 3rd verse of My Name Is Prince. THAT would answer you question. cool

My name is Prince, I don't wanna be king
Cuz I've seen the top and it's just a dream
Big cars and women and fancy clothes
Will save your face but it won't save your soul

I'm here to tell you that there's a better way
Would our Lord be happy if He came 2 day?
I ain't sayin' I'm better, no better than u
But if u want 2 play with me, u better learn the rules

No, it didnt start with Prince...but I heard His Royal Badness long before I heard the King of Pop.

As for Elvis...King my ass.

Everytime a white person has a thimble full of talent and tries to do something that black folks have been doing for ages, he's suddenly considered the best.

Just ask Eminem.

I don't think you know what you're talking about. It's really cool to shit on Elvis now if you're black or you fancy yourself knowledgeable about underground music from the '50s, but Elvis was nothing but reverential to his black peers. Elvis was the one who shifted the spotlight from himself to an up and coming Fat Domino, saying, "no no, he's the real king of rock." etc.

It's so easy to take shots at a dead man, as we plainly see from a certain repugnant mod and a cadre of soulless people here who take shots at MJ. Elvis was often also incorrectly labeled a racist. Where people get off on simply being rude and attempting to usurp the legacy someone's left behind is beyond me.

V10LETBLUES

The King Of Pop moniker was a press release from the Jackson camp.

It was a marketing gimmick manufactured by MJ and his production company. It stuck and it has worked fabulously.

"His Royal Badness" is much much cooler. The music press called him that all by themselves without any nudging, urging or press release from anyone. Just out of awe and respect because of his bad boy image and and musical prowess.

"[A] highly placed source at MTV says the network was obligated to refer to Jackson on air as the King of Pop in order to be allowed to show "Black or White." An MTV spokeswoman denies that, but the phrase was part of MTV's ads for the video and was repeatedly used by its VJs. A source at Fox confirms that Jackson's people did request that Bart use the phrase "King of Pop" in the video and that the phrase also be used in the network's press releases; "King of Pop" also crops up in Fox's print ads for the video and in press releases by Jackson's publicists, Solters/Roskin/Friedman."

He doesn't need that. Beyonce is brilliant artist, better than GaGa, but GaGa is new queen of pop. Bey knows that, she's awesome and she doesn't matter about she's title.

pop is the lowest common denominator music, prince is far above that. to call his music pop is derogatory. it's far from pop, which is why it's not often in the charts with the rest of the music that's shat into creation by people who use computers because they never bothered learning instruments, and listened by brain dead morons being transported by sheep to workplaces with earphones plugged into mobile phones

prince is a musician, not a king. he doesn't need a retarted made up title

thumbs up! Uni
