The context helps:

"that might be the same one that tapped on the crag

that brought forth water and quenched your thirst."

"Crag"- steep rugged mass of rock projecting upward or outward,
especially a cliff or vertical rock exposure.

This is a not-so-subtle reference to a Biblical account of the Israeiltes coming into the Promised Land.

At the threshold of the Land of Promise the Israelite assembly gets to quarreling with Moses because of the lack of water. Yahuah counts it as quarreling with Him, and He appears in His glory, commanding Moses to take his rod and bring out water from the "crag"(rock). Moses twice strikes the crag in anger. The people and their livestock get water to drink, but Moses and Aaron fail to give the credit to Yahuah.

The previous lyric in the song seems to be Prince comparing his own guitar to this rod that Moses used.

datdude

its an obtuse reference to Moses in the Old Testament when he tapped on the rock (crack) and brought forth water for the children of Israel in their Exodus from Egypt

It's obvious.

It is refering to the drinking fountain on top of Salisbury Crags in Edinburgh.
