Granted I'm a newbie on here, so perhaps it HAS been discussed, but still I wish to say it. We all read how amazing Prince is - his music, his moves, his voice, etc, but I just want to comment on how much the dude shreds on guitar! Last night was my first time seeing him live, and watching his left hand during the guitar solos was surreal. Prince gets named checked a lot as an entertainer and singer, but as far as I know not so much as a guitar player - and he SHOULD! He plays with so much feeling and expression - I almost felt like I was watching Jimi Hendrix at certain points. AMAZING.

Couldn't agree more. Prince's guitar playing is at the very top.

Go to different guitar player forums around the web. You'll see that the pros and players of the world know how good Prince is.

He gets universal love at just about any guitar forum you can find.

Oh, and welcome to the Org! Feel free to ask anything. Sure, everything's been asked already but most of us don't mind re-hasing anything that you want to know. Just ignore anyone that says otherwise (and there will be a few of those, LOL).

LOL - thanks for the encouragement (and I know how people can be on forums - that's precisely why I rarely utilize them). Anyway - glad to hear he does indeed get the recognition he deserves.

Prince is great rhythm guitar player,but also great lead guitar player

and what makes me happy about his playing is that he is still

trying to upgrade his licks ,

still searching

so underrated. he tore it up last night. my first too! at least 4 more to go!

Yeah, he is pretty underrated. I think that's becausse on his albums he tends to not play a whole lot of lead guitar. To really appreciate his playing it's best to see him live. Hopefully Prince will decide to release some more concert footage as that's one way that more people will see him live and maybe get an appreciation for his abilities.

I played a friend of mine who loathes Prince the rock and roll hall of fame performance and he was pretty impressed. He said he thought that Prince was like those country singers that just hold a guitar but can't really play. I suspect a lot of folks have a similar opinion.
