Undertaker / Gold Nigga

Are these official CD's? I haven't seen them anywhere, but want to know where I could find them... What about the song Oilcan?
Heard a bit of it on the Radio 2 special but surely they wouldn't play a bootleg?

Both are official but never made widely available. 'Goldnigga' (containing the track 'Oilcan") was sold through 1800NEWFUNK and has been available for sale a few times on Prince's web site.

'The Undertaker' was produced in a limited run, but never distributed, since Warner Bros. would not support it's release. At one point it was intended to be included with a 1994 issue of Guitar Player World (?) magazine. Copies that were laquered to be made unplayable were subsequently recovered and fixed and have been made available through private collectors, ebay and Madhouse Music.

Madhouse Music http://www.madhousemusic.co.uk/ is a great resource for rare items. I got my copy of 'The Undertaker' from them.

As a completist - yes. It carries a lot of the jazz fusion ideas hinted at on Diamonds and Pearls and O)+> to the next step. Unfortunately, the rap elements are inappropriate and borish. One of the tracks, '2Gether', was on the 1 800 NEW FUNK compilation and another, 'Call the Law', was a b-side from a Diamonds and Pearls single, if you have either - that may give you some idea of the flavor of the project.

The Undertaker video was sold at the NPG-Mpls store for a limited time, as was the GN album.
I personally love the GN album, it's better(IMO) than Exodus and much better than NPS. The standouts are "Johnny" and "2gether"(from 1800newfunk). The other parts include some campy spoken parts and songs(GN I, II, and III) that are very funny.
Ultimately, I like this album as somewhat of sequel/followup to the past Time/Family albums.
I'm not a completist, so I only buy albums that I want to listen to, and GN is one of them.

I still kinda dig Call The Law.. Especially live (From Bagley's Warehouse in London).. Black MF in the house is totally amusing.. Duece and a quarter.. That's pretty funky.

Out of the two, I would say "Undertaker" is the must have. Undertaker is performed by the edited version of the NPG band known as the New Power Trio. It is Prince on lead guitar/vocals, Sonny T on Bass, and Michael B on drums - and that's it, no one else. Solid performance from beginning to end.

But Gold Nigga is good too, but in my opinion, Gold Nigga is definitely an "NPG" album and not a "Prince" album. I really get the impression that on Gold Nigga Prince is more or less just dropping by the studio from time to time as the rest of the NPG is working on the album and he only adds his input here and there. Beyond that, there are maybe one or two songs that are clearly Prince penned tracks, while everything else is strictly NPG. But, it really just depends on what you like to listen to.

But, if someone is not a completist, I would say they could live without Gold Nigga before they could live without Undertaker. Just my opinion though.

Damn. Did they mention that it's an NPG album and not a P
album? I mean, imagine the face on the buyer when he slips
the disc into the player, expecting a full fledged Prince
album, and hearing Tony stumble out the speakers...

Well, "Johnny" might make up for some of the grief. But,
155 POUNDS? OMG. That's even more than the ONA set smile

I have never heard 'GoldNigga' before and just checked on eBay for it.

There's only one up for bid at the moment and it's at $77.99.

For anyone that might know, is that commonly what a copy of this CD goes for on eBay. That's a lot of $$$ for this girl...

Just wondering.

Well. It all depends on what you're looking for.

Here's Milli Vanilli for a buck.

I get your point.

Hopefully one of these days I'll be able to find GoldNigga for less than 80.00 though.

Oh and thank for the link to the Milli Vanilli auction. toilet What's scary is someone has bid on it.
