All that talk about he doesn't care.....in 2001 at Paisley Park the trophy case was out front and the tour guide kept saying "this is the Oscar, this is the Grammy, but again he does not care about these awards." The next day the newspaper said "Then why is the case out front and record plaques all over for people to see"? hahahaha

He performed at the 2004 Grammy's...the first year he was up for one in a looonnngggg time. After he didn't win he said "I don't need to Grammy". Crazy

Yeah I saw that awards show! He looked great.

But I always took that line as "if I win I win if I don't that's cool"

Now we know when he lost Best Album for SOTT to U2 for 'joshua tree' he was a bit testy then too. saying something like "I have done that but they could not do housequke." So i get what you are saying. And I know I am being a bit mixed. But I think he is too. He wants to win, sure, most people want to be recognized, but really deep down he knows what time it is. He knows who he is and how he has done more than most could ever dream. So in the end... I doubt he cares about winning awards.

and to the trophy case, I would love to see it. maybe he put it there so visitors could enjoy it too?

yup, or it is a state of mind during the process. As in he is not making a song for fame or glory but for the quality of the work.

Prince says that he doesnt care but deep down I think he cares. Otherwise he wouldnt of said those comments over the years. Like the one comment when he lost againt U2. Probably feeling they think my song/album is not as good as whatever song/album that won.

He probably didn't care while he was making that song lol.

Awards can often be misleading. For many reasons, think i'd rather have good record sales than win an award. Both would be nice though!

When he wins them, he feels he deserves them... and when someone else wins them, he feels it was rightfully his...

I think he appreciates winning awards and being recognized for his work. But what I think he is saying is that he is not going to change his music or become another "run of the mill, sound alike artists" in order to win them. He plays what he wants, how he wants.....and if the critics give him props, great! But if not, his own music is his award.
