Prince is a rip-off artist No i don't believe this but it seems some fans have this great desire to bring Prince down a few rungs. I wonder where this desire stems from? I'm sure a great many of Prince songs have been inspired by other songs. This is more then likely the case with most songs created. Nothing is created out of nothing.
Doesn't there seem to a be certain type of fan who wants Prince to be a fraud of some type? The Barts and others. I don't understand where that desire stems from. Maybe its the case of deification gone wrong?
If you start with the premise that Prince is some supernatural figure maybe it turns into disapointment when you find that he is indeed just human. Hell I find that his humanity makes him much more interesting then some myth.

& I could care less. Some of the covers P does I know and some I do not know and I could care less. I don't think he's some supernatural being and created something from scratch, save the MPLSoUND we all know and love.

So what your are saying is this? Prince is a "rip-off artist" , but no more so than any other artist. "New Power slide...."

Perhaps if Prince didn't continually present himself as a 'some supernatural figure' (see Ebony magazine photos for example) people wouldn't expect him to be something more than human. His humanity is indeed more interesting than his myth, but he's very careful to hide that as much as possible. He's continually promoting the myth. Recent interview with babble about us living in 1010, eating light, etc. just further the idea of Prince as something otherworldly.
If that's how he wants to sell himself, the contents should live up to the packaging.

Prince is no more a rip 0ff then any other artist. He's written 99 percent of his music, plays most of the instruments on his recordings, sings, arramges virtually everything. He's never denied his influences, heck he has even paid tribute to them or mentioned them in songs like The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker and Musicology.

And some fans want to start threads to bait and take swipes at other fans.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |
