I love the "helpless as a pet" line. I see someone completely dependent and happy to get whatever affection they can from their owner. Gosh, when I ignore my dog, she sits with droopy eyes and waits for my affection and is so thrilled when it comes - when she really should tell me to f--- off.

I love that song.

The lyrics is one thing but for me the main thing is the way he sings the song. It has this feeling of something wanting to burst out but is constantly held back. Like he is on the limit of starting to scream or something but just does not cross over this invisible line...

I see it as Prince spying on another couple through a window across the street, and the other couple plays out several fantasies.

You're right when you correct the other person over the word's use in this context. Yet, by doing so, cancel out your original complaint.

agreed, it's an awesome track. he beat is relentless and the little horn [synth horns?] interjection is a great touch. As for the lyrics they prove that nobody does sexy like P!
