Wow, I am genuinely shocked by how many here hate TRC.

Is it beacuse of the narration and Wedding feast? If so, please get beyond that.

I can't speak for everyone, but I imagine for many it's the antisemitism, sexism, and religious dogma that bring it down.

Right so nothing to do with music at all.

Oh no the music too. I don't care about the lyrics. If I did, I wouldn't be a Prince fan in the first place. Uninspiring 70's light jazz fusion versions of past Prince songs. The compositions suck, but musicianship is great though.

THE RAINBOW CHILDREN.... horrid, just horrid. Darth Vader narration, bigoted/prejudiced lyrics, a mess musically... The only backhanded compliment I can give it is that the horrible content was performed well... a truly polished turd.

Indeed, this album makes every other album by Prince look like a classic in comparison.

Worst to date? Rave. Most of Emancipation. Much of G.B. and Diamonds and Pearls.

I adore T.R.C, N.E.W.S & O.N.A Piano and don't give a got-damn who knows it!!!razz

NPS.....However it has some great tracks and great funk sound I think it is his weakest work next to Rave. That being said I still jam to it. Just not big into that sort of commercial RnB sound he had going on in certain parts of the nineties. I'm not even a big fan of The One or Come On. I do like Mad Sex and Wasted Kisses. Oh yea and I Like Funky Music is a cool track.

Chaos and Disorder.

There are a few cool tracks but much of this album sounds like Lenny Kravitz reject songs.

The Truth

Prince going all acoustic is great for a lost episode of MTV Unplugged, but it is NOT a definite example of what a Prince album is suppose to be (IMHO).

I can't believe all the hate for The Rainbow Children... I love the title track, Digital Garden, Family Name, and the classy artwork and slowed down voice were great and those songs were also uncharted territory for Prince. It was also a strong cohesive concept album whether or not you disliked his personal agenda...

I don't care for lyrics, and I think Rainbow Children is great.

I don't like Kamasutra.

You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

New Power Soul or The black album.

I don't know which, I'm still too afraid to listen to them again.

I disagree about NPS, but I know enough people dislike it that I won't argue on that one. But The Black Album? Really? That to me is pure, unadulterated genius on his part. So, so good.

3121, Planet Earth, Mplsound and 20Ten are so horrible that they make Musicology seem like quite a semi-listenable effort.

TRC is one of his best albums ever, in my opinion.

NO ITS NOT THAT ARTWORK IS GOD AWFUL, HE LOOKS LIKE A BLEACHED SATAN FIGURE.

(I do agree with everything else you say about it though)

The Rainbow Children is not the worst album just because of its misguided and controversial lyrix, but also the dreadful standard of musicality

* One of the best trax 1+1+1 is 3 is based on the groove of Erotic City

* Prince's slowed down god voice makes it hard to get into the groove

* Wedding Feast is the most self indulgent experiment he has ever made

* Despite the bad lyrix Last December, the Everlasting Now and She loves me for me are passable but not good songs, the fact that these 5/10 quality songs are the highlights on this album make it even more dreadful.

* The Everlasting now and Muse to the Pharaoh are ridiculous noize

* The rest of the album suffers from weak song writing, bad melodies, phone in beats and dirge like vocals that just put you to sleep

* Cover and CD art are beyond wretchable

* The best part is it ending and the CD makes a good coaster

* Weak song writing, bad melodies, offenisve lyrics, slipshod musicality, weak voices and the fact its not only 9 songs long like most of his better albums make this album a royal stinker.
