If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I'm wondering what Prince's Bass solo is like on this.
I haven't heard this yet.

i am wondering if the longer one is not what Prince sent Miles and Miles edited it down? "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

what is real, how can i help you 7 -8 and other is not 6 have i give here lecture about this science

no but 6 - 2 = 4 prince sends Miles a 6 minute song, the song ends up getting edited by MILES to 4 minutes. (which is the song that has been in circulation for years) "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

What makes you think whom ever has the original tape that was leaked out to bootlegs edited it? Or the bootleg companies who released it didn't just edited it. We have seen this before with outtakes like Sex of It (the complete version is not circulating), Computer Blue (the complete version is not circulating) we got snips and pieces of the good quality versions. The short version of "Can I Play With U?" is not "included" in the long version. The mix is different, the intro/outro to the short version are different, etc.

Found this in Google Books: a chapter from George Cole's "The Last Miles: The Music of Miles Davis, 1980-1991" © Bart Van Hemelen

I only have the 4:10 version. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Me too. Can't say I didn't half-heartedly look, but this song has just never really grabbed me beyond a passing, "Oh. Miles Davis and Prince." before I skip to the next track.

Yeah, I know. I just like to have everything. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

lol, What else would people do with all 629 remixes of Gangster Glam.

Ain't that the truth? And every one is a piece of crap.
I always think of them mixing and remixing that thing.
Any better? Nope - still crap! [Edited 12/8/10 12:37pm] We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Wow, he really needs to cut that entire first verse and chorus section (the first 3 minutes) out as it mars an otherwise decent funk jam (the extended portion).
I still think it needs a lot of work. The outro vocals are much more in line with what I think they should be in the beginning. I've never been into the coy, peekaboo, Bambi vocals he has in the verses. It works much better when he kicks it up a few notches. [Edited 12/8/10 12:45pm]

Groovin' to the gangster, groove groove groovin' to the...groovin' to the gangster........ How can ye not like it?

lol, I've always wondered why I've never heard Gangster Glam or any of the Gett Off remixes in the clubs I've been to. And then someday, the DubStep HouseStyle Make Love Not War Until The Rain Comes Keep Steppin Mix of Gangster Glam (x10did Version) accidentally comes up on my ipod and I remember why they just stick to "Kiss".

Some of us seem to be operating on the same wavelength. I was just re-reading "The Last Miles" yesterday and was surprised at the mention of the 6 min + version of Can I Play With U? that the author said was circulating. What struck me was my hardbound version is copyright 2005.
How did we all miss this circulating track for over 5 years?

I read the book ("The Last Miles") just a few months after it was published. And I don't remember that part about the 6-minute version of the track... Strange...
Now, I know that some recordings by Miles are circulating, but not widely circulating. For example, the complete recording of the June 18, 1970 concert:

I'm pretty sure it has been circulating for years, but just among a small (?) circle of collectors.
Same for the long version of "Can I Play With U?", I guess.

Same here. I bought the book when it was released, then re-read portions recently (looking specifically for info on Can I Play With U?
Oh, there are large amounts of Miles Davis performances circulating. Yes, not widely, but in some of the same places I find Prince's stuff.

Nice chapter in George Cole's "The Last Miles: The Music of Miles Davis, 1980-1991 (thanks Bart). It ends with the mention of two paintings by Miles inspired by the music of Prince.
I remember a Miles Davis painting hanging in or near the room by the vault in Paisley Park (which I visited during the Celebration in 2000). I remember a purple painting with the word PRINCE or MILES (I forget wich word it is).
