DEAR WATCHTHEMFALL:

Let ME set you STRAIGHT on "Crystal Ball; most of the people on this site are delusional and subjective to the point of embarassing themselves, just like poor "Se7en" above!Let me help you see the light!

HERE is "The TRUTH" about "CB": READ!:

1) There are only 8 good songs out of 30:

Crystal Ball
Acknowledge Me
Movie Star
Crucial
Good Love
Last Heart
The Ride
Goodbye

**These are songs that would have been decent filler on any of his "real" releases.

CRYSTAL BALL IS NOT A SERIOUS ATTTEMPT AT A COMPILATION WITH A THEME,VISION,STATEMENT,or PRODUCTION! It is just a bunch of songs. That is ALL.

There is NOTHING that could have been a single. NOTHING that would have stood out on a real album, save the title track. MANY sound like Prince just killing a day in the studio, like an artist just goofing off in a sketchbook.

The following songs, BELIEVE ME, you could enjoy the rest of your life without ever hearing:

1) Dream Factory: poor rythym, melody, and vocals colliding into an unpleasant chant.

2) LoveSign Remix: a LAZY, uninvolving (boring) remix of the dud single: LAME

3) Hide the Bone: in pretty pedestrian, with stupid lyrics and a very annoying vocal--typical of his sup-par 90's malaise. Useless.

4) Tell Me How U wanna Be Done: JUST listen to the end of "The Continental" over and over and over... and imagine a faster machine drumbeat underneath

5) So Dark: Just "Dark" with LESS r&b twinges and more bass-...that's ALL.

6) Ripopgodazippa: da-da da-da-da-da, da-da da-da-da-da, da-da da-da-da-da...thats the rythym OVER AND OVER AND OVER accompanied to the stupid sex lyrics of 90's Prince.

7) 2Morrow: this song is GAY. GAY, GAY, GAY. Faggy organ and vocals. You will HATE this song.

8) Interactive: Picked up my paper today/blah,blah,guess what they say/blah,blahblah,blahh blah: Interactive! This will make your ears bleed from the pain.

9) Da Bang: Fans will make you believe this track is good because of the guitar. It is noise. AGAIN: lyrics with a rythym na na na na na na na, na na na na na na na like RIPPOP or Days of Wild. It's a DRONING, DRONING stupidity

10) What's My Name: He hardly can even bring himself to put ANY energy into the indulgent lyrics - some nonsense about coffee and cream

11) Sexual Suicide: When "Girls & Boys" goes BAD

12) Cloreen Baconskin: a complete slap in the face in exchange for your $$$ unnless you ENJOY a 15min. drumbeat with nonsense free-association lyrics spoken with a voice needing a lozenge

13) Strays of the World: How embarassing "STHrrrays of the WURRRldd, all you boys and gurrrls/welcome 2...this is BAD showtune camp

14) Days Of Wild: rythym: nuh-nuh...nuhnuhnuhnuhnuh/ nuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhn,,,you get the picture,,,Fans will tell you they like this song but just because he swears a lot, and Prince fans love lyrics like "jockstrap full of jizz"

15) She Gave Her Angels: Mayte-era suckiness with Emancipation minimal instrumentals.

16) P Control and Get Loose!: more of the crappy remixes you never wanted

17) 18 & over: it'll give you epilepsy, that repetitive loop--and lyrics that are not as sexy as Prince thinks, just embarassinng. AGAIN Prince fans will say it's cool, but they are just Pavlov's dogs about any sex song

WATCHTHEMFALL:

EVERY single time I played this album in front of friends, they ALL thought it was SHIT. In my car, at work...EVERYBODY HATED this disc. Specifically Interactive, Days of Wild, 18& Over,...and they are RIGHT! It DOES SUCK!! Girls, women, guys,.. they all thought it was annoying and bad. It's the worst reaction I ever got from playing Prince. Listen to your friends!! Sometimes they see clearer than Prince fans caught up in it all.

...AS for "The Truth",,,the songwriting IS good, BUT: the execution and musicianship is NOT why ANYONE buys a Prince album. There is not a solid standout in the heap. Prince fans want ANY album to say is good from Prince's late-90's downfall and this is elected by default.

Go buy "Grafitti Bridge" instead! "Can't Stop This Feelinng I got", New Power Generation" "The Question of U", "We Can Funk" "Joy in Repitition" and "Still Would Stand All Time" kick the paisley ass of any CB songs. Fand knock GB but most fans are idiots.

I tend to agree with a lot of this, but as rdhull said Crystal Ball is worth it for any solid Prince fan, especially at a knockdown price. The title track is far far more than decent filler and probably justifies the money spent alone (once again, for a true prince fan). My greatest complaint is that for a man who supposedly has the deepest vault imaginable there are too many recycled songs. Did we really need remixes of Love Sign and Dark that undercut their greatest strength? And putting a techno beat under songs like loose, p control and like u wanna be done mustn't have exhausted too much of prince's creative juices. These inclusions are baffling, especially when you consider there are only ten tracks per disc. I don't really see how Graffiti Bridge is relevant here, since there is no indication that WatchThemFall doesn't already have this. It's not the first album I'd recommend to someone on the street. In the end there's a lot of pleasant material on Crystal Ball that doesn't do justice to the man's talents, but it's still something that any Prince fan will enjoy listening to.

I totally agree, but there are other live versions of Hide the Bone that are better than the one on CB.

A lot of it is boring. I've played it all the way through maybe twice.

She Gave Her Angels is a great song, though.

You are not a big fan if you haven't got it. However i wouldn't buy it again if i could, with the exception of "the truth"... which is not sold in stores if I am correct. The crystal ball set is a major ripp off because half of it it consists of weak ass lame R&b remixes of already pretty weak songs from the 90's. nothing like what the original was supposed to be.
