^ Actually, I'm pretty sure the request needs to be made 10 years beforehand.
it can be made 10 years prior but the holder (WB) has 5 years to comply but not before 35 years.
But there's some disagreement about whether this would actually stop ownership returning if it wasn't done.
for how i read it with out the request there is no transfer.
Also, the viability of 'remastering' from a commerical perspective is really tied in with physical formats at the moment (as MP3 quality isn't really good enough for people to really notice the difference). Since CDs are on the decline then the viability of remastering will decline with it. As the main market for 'remastered' packages is still on CD, usually with expanded packaging and bonus tracks etc. Until, of course, alternate higher quality formats become commonplace.
i do not buy that at all.

No one cares about Prince's first two albums. The ones that the fight will be over are, IMHO, "1999", "Sign O' the Times" and especially "Purple Rain".
Given that Prince couldn't use any "Batman" soundtrack songs on his Hits CD, I wonder if that one will EVER revert to Prince. |

I agree. I don't think it's a "done deal", yet at least, whatever those guys on the podcast have heard.

But why couldn't he?
I mean, was it REALLY a contractual issue or something else?

Actually the type of people who tend to really be into remasters would care a great deal about the early stuff especially if it's package with historical information, demo tracks, notes about studio sessions--the kind of thing that gives us a sense of the birth of this artist. "I'm Yours" is in dire need of remastering and there are a few tracks off of "Prince" that would gain second life.
Chances of this being done though I suspect are slim. "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32 |
