Sabotage still sell pressed cd's, maybe other labels do too, i'm not sure.

But there are even idiots out there trying to make money from the free label releases, by burning them to cd and selling them on ebay, ioffer etc.

Finding bootlegs on the net for free and downloading them is very easy.

Google will tell you how to find them and how to download and listen to them. And if you want a cd copy, burn it to a cd-r and print the artwork. If i can do it......anyone can, believe me.

But, if it is label pressed c d's you want then you are going to miss out on a large amount of fantastic music.

Yes, there are still sellers of pressed bootlegs.

i'm folk sell them on fleabay, but it's not that hard to download them and stick em on an ipod or something. cds are so 90s

prince wise that's the only two regular ones i can think of. in fact i can't think of any other non specif prince bootleg labels that bother doing prince boots these days. you get the odd pirate disc of vanity and stuff like that. the download market has just killed bootlegs for profit, especially with the delay between releases being slaughtered. no more queing early at record fairs to get the "new" stuff

In a way i miss those record fair days, buying up all the boots, but it's so much easier (and cheaper of course) going down the download route.

I want to but look what our government did to some of the torrent search sites. All they do is offer a search engine that specializes in torrents. They got shut down with not so much a by your leave...bloody do gooders!

but I am not sure where the law is currently on if a web site is or is not property as protected under the 4th and 5th. I seem to recall an old story when someone hacked into someone's domain and took it over and that the courts had at one point said there was no theft as a url is not property.

I do miss the days of the CD (or even the Vinyl album) bootleg where you got some artwork, and the music all in a neat package.

But it would be expensive to match the quantity of downloads, and of course they add artwork to the downloads, you just have to print it, cut it, put it in a case... if you are making a hard copy.

The best part about the availability of bootlegs are when 1st generation tapes are posted.

What really gets annoying is when you see the CDs and DVDs that you know came from specific trading circles, make their way on to Ebay and start seeing bids. That's when you start putting the word out on the boards with the other traders/collectors, and sometimes you go back and it's gone.... sometimes.

A small handful of estates and artists actually do anything about it. It's a pretty small number. The recording industry cares more about the storebought stuff.

That whole thing with Metallica going after Napster wasn't tied to live bootlegs, or even their studio recordings, it was because someone stole their work in progress tapes and posted it online months before it was out. It's one thing for someone in a band to misplace their tape, and it eventually makes its way out into the bootleg circles. But taking someone's project they're putting time and money into, and having the audacity to distribute it when it's not even finished?

And on the other hand, you have Dave Matthews, whose "Busted Stuff" was released due to it being distributed on the internet. The record company had originally made him shelve the tapes because they felt it was too dark, and wound up doing "Everyday". But because of fan pressure, the record company relented, Dave Matthews finished it up, and it became a big seller.

And of course "Black Album" bootlegs were a hot commodity for a period of time. I'm sure the bootleggers prob. printed a couple of million copies of it.

buy a computer then, they are cheap these days. you can then benefit tremendously from it, as will your son and rest of your family. download, stick on an ipod, you don't need cds. converting and ripping etc is so simple, any moron can do it, and plenty do

I would recommend burning them onto cds,as well as an I-pod or a any portable device. I'm old fashioned and like the fact that i can take a cd with me anywhere. And if anyone says that cd-rs have a limited shelf life, i would say rubbish. I've still got burned cd-rs from trading circles from the mid 90s that still play fine without any problems to this day.

some do some do not. and most will fade in the sun. Like anything some are better than others. I would recomend buring them to a DVD as a archive.

Yes, if you spend some money on good brand name cd-r's, and look after them properly, then they should last for a long time......is the average not 30+ years or something?

excatly and always make a back up. i lost a cool self made extended verison cd when a friend sat on it!

I got a 2TB external disc that I'm copying all my Prince stuff to. Official and boots. I realized that if anything would happen that I wouldn't get most of it back. To safeguard it I store the copy exactly 40,075 kilometres away from the original.

And like others said, I miss the days of going to fairs and then coming home with a bag full of goodies. Nowadays you can DL 'em faster than you can listen to it.

Of course you would get it back. There's copies of everything in lossless formats.

External drives is where i keep all my bootlegs. Downloading them and burning the buggers to disc was taking up too much space, and on top of that, i'm a lazy fucker too.

2TB drives can be had for under £100 these days....well worth it.

2tb drives are now less than £65 delivered. and you can't fit all the prince stuff on one of them
