No pics at Madison Square show

So I got my ticket for the Madison Square concert and you are not allowed to take pics. I wanted to document the event this kinda bummed me out. Is this normal at Prince concerts?

Yes, this is normal. You don't want to be taking pictures at a concert anyways, just soak it all in and enjoy yourself. I go to alot of concerts and its kind of a pet peeve of mine but I hate seeing people taking pictures. I am there to see the performer not peoples phones blocking my view. Some people say they do not miss anything by taking pictures and it is not true. I see the people spending lots of time looking at their cameras/phones and not looking at the performer. I also think it is extremely disrespectful when the artist requests that no pictures be taken. Okay, I am done venting.

I've never seen a concert ticket that didn't have this printed on it. You'll be fine.

My phone takes pics and video...soooo, if I want, I can take pics and vids. But I so am not going to do anything to get kicked out! lol But that's normal at all the concerts...Prince knows it will happen...he looks right at them when the folks are in the front row taking pics/vids of him and even points at them!

What you don't want to do is have your arm up the entire show, recording it, even though some people get away with it. But you're going to see most of the people there taking clips and pics.

They enforced this a long time ago, because people were bringing 35MM cameras with telescopic lenses and boom mics. The Grateful Dead designated a tapers section so they could centralize them, and they were usually people that had been known by the band management, it wasn't like anyone could just get those tickets (had to do with preventing bootlegs being sold to fans).

Usually security will come down if the venue goes dark and you're the one having your hand straight up in the air recording. Of course, if there's a way to get rid of a red light on your camera and no one's able to notice the glow from your camera, no one's going to stop you. Some people will just throw their coat over their camera, and hope they get a good shot in. But then you wind up hearing your own voice singing along, or someone drowning out the vocals on the stage.

Security is usually more worried about safety and people getting past them to get a better view. And with no one really making money off of bootlegs because fans trade them out or file share them, it's not that high of a priority to go after tapers the way it used to be.

But most performers want us to put the cameras down and be entertained.

Both! But I'm like you...I will be too busy dancing and staring at Prince. I managed to do ok the last show, but its too hard to focus on trying to get good shots when you're hearing music that makes you dance. And seeing Prince's beauty through a lenses in NOTHING like seeing it with the naked eye...Pics don't do him justice, they really don't.

The beauty of going to concerts where no pix or video is allowed is that someone always seems to get away with recording it. So, why worry? Why not go and enjoy the concert and let others spend their whole evening peering through a convoluted lens... And then you can look at their efforts later...and archive your own enjoyable clear memories of what actually happened--so much better than fuzzy videos. wink

I took pix at every concert I went to this year.

I don't stand around like a fashion photographer, but I do try to get a few shots to capture where I've been and what I saw. shrug

I like to go and see/dance/sing and have a good time.

There are too many sad people standing taking pictures that they will delete or not look at.

It's a concert not a photo shoot.

Dont these saddo's get on your nerves with hands up taking picture instead of watching the show?

That sounds like the festival lineup for the 9th circle of hell.

No hard feelings.

I believe that rule was always imposed at MSG for concerts.

Actually, out of the 200+ tickets stubs I have saved not even half of them say No Photos/No Cameras. I think it is just understood.

He does get upset when people take his picture. He hated it at the aftershows at indigo2 at the first indigo show I saw someone at the front took a pic and he pointed to the wings as if to say 'I'll go!' fortunately people seemed to respect him after that last thing any fan wants is for a gig to be cut short because some dick wants a bloody photo!

Yeah, well...

People who JUST stand and take pix are annoying, but I take my camera to concerts all the time...

I like to have a couple of shots to remember the events. I DO look at them again. In fact, have a photo album on Fb where I posted after every show I attended this year. Plus I have a music room in my house and I create framed mementos with ticket stubs and posters or whatever.

Not a "saddo", whatever the hell that is. biggrin

We all have our pet peeves... I can't stand screamers, cryers, and people who get wasted or light up a joint as soon as the show starts. shrug

(Oh, and concert shirts. lol)
