Purple Rain Bluray time difference?

Anyone else notice that the bluray version of Purple Rain is 111minutes vs 107 minutes on DVD and VHS?... Extra scenes????... nooooo - I played them both together and it seems the bluray discs play slower.... that's right, you really notice it during jungle love at the beginning. Speach sounds normal, but songs are a different speed and pitch.

Is the bluray the correct speed, or the dvd? Can't find any reason for the difference really, so maybe someone here has an idea.

OK.. answered my own question by comparing the musical tracks to the cd.

Guess which one plays at the right speed......

The bluray.... weird eh.

Anyone else want to conduct the experiment, please be my guest... be nice to know I'm not mad. (well not that mad anyway!)

Interesting.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

i presum you are comparing the pal vhs/dvd to bluray?

film runs at 24fps and pal is 25fps. ntsc is either 23.97fps or 29.99 fps. thats frames per second. to convert film to pal, the frames are played back 4% faster, thus what we call pal speedup. this results in a pitch difference of a half semiton

for conversion to ntsc a 2/3 pulldown method is used, where some fields (two fields make a frame) are duplicated to make a 29.99fps conversion

bluray is neither pal or ntsc and is usually encoded at the native 24fps for film, thus plays at the right speed at pitch

many people say how great pal is compared to ntsc as it has a higher resolution, but it means most movies aren't as the director intended as the play at the wrong speed and pitch, affecting ALL music, including the score, and it changes dramatic and comedy timing

Yes.. you are exactly right. The vhs and dvd's are pal.

Good to know there is a difference due to fps.

Thanks for your informative reply.... I'm not mad!!!!!!!!
