private music tutorial For the musicians out there on the org, if you could sit down with Prince and let him teach you one of his songs, which song would you choose and on which instrument?
For me, it would be 'Joy in Repetition'.

In terms of chord progressions and technical requirements, both songs are quite easy to play, really (except maybe for the solo on Joy In Repetition, but it's still nothing a professional guitarist wouldn't be able to play - it's rather the sound of the guitar that stands out).
I would like to be tought how to play the I Hate U solo on guitar - what kinds of gear to use how exactly to get that dirty layered, yet somehow soft sound. I would also like to be able to play the Shhh stuff on guitar and be tought how he came up with the arrangement ideas for both songs (I Hate U is masterclass, considering how often little melodies or strings in the background can transform a chord compeltely...)!

very true, not saying i couldn't or can't figure it out and play it myself, just for whatever reason, that song resonated with me [Edited 12/1/10 14:37pm] . <3 Prince <3

Instead of asking how to play certain songs, I'd ask about songwriting. How does he come up with song ideas and arrangements, and which instruments does he use to write songs with.

I wouldn't need a lesson in one song, I'd prefer a crash course in improvisation. But on second thoughts, I'd probably be so embarrassed and giggle that I'd rather ask him for a dance. I'd feel more on equal terms. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -
