The Work Pt 1 (Napster Version): A little help? Been looking for this for ages. Does anyone know where I can get it? Do any 'compilations' feature this version? If so, just a name will do. Please note, I am not soliciting bootlegs (not sure what the org's rules are on legal downloads which are no longer unavailable). Any help would be great, thanks in advance!

The Work was never a legal download. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The Work Pt 1 is a song from The Rainbow Children and was availabel for download for NPGMusicclubmembers before the album came out.

wasn't it a cd single from a tour and from the NPGMC?

I forgot it was available through the NPGMC store.
Why not just buy The Rainbow Children CD? That way, you'll have the whole thing in lossless format - instead of a crappy mp3. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The Napster/NPGMC CD-Single version of The Work, Part 1 is different than the Rainbow Children track. It has Prince's infamous keyboard solo-while also playing guitar in the mix. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Wait. So is the Napster version the same as the one on The Work/U Make My Sunshine cd-single?? Strange. I've read a couple of times that the cd-single version is the same as what's on the album. Can anyone confirm this? As you've probably guessed, I don't own the cd-single (it's a little out of my price range) but by the looks of things I'm going to have to ebay it come New Year.

The CD single version (also made avilable for download previously) is not the same as the album version.
By way of example, the lyrics are not the exactly the same:

Album: http://www.dtt-lyrics.com....html#work . [Edited 11/15/10 15:14pm] ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

As langebleu pointed out with the PrinceVault link, it was made available with the NPGMC Ahdio Show Transmission #3 download. It clocks in at about 3:36, about a minute short of the Rainbow Children track. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Ok, thanks for the help guys. The good news: it's available on CD. The bad news: I've got a new CD to hunt down.

Okay - then I have it somewhere. Not sure I've ever listened to it, though. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
