Prince is featured on instruments, but does not sing any vocals

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/94_East

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

94 East was a Minneapolis-based funk group formed in December 1975 by Pepe Willie, the former husband of Prince's cousin. Willie was one of the people responsible for getting Prince's career up and running, and soon enlisted the talents of a young Prince and his childhood best friend, André Cymone. Prince also composed one song for them, "Just Another Sucker". The band disbanded when Prince became a star in his own right. The 94 East recordings were recorded between December 1975 and February 1979. 94 East was named after Inrerstate 94.

Let me disagree, apart from "Just Another Sucker" I find this release boring.

I only have this on LP vinyl, never cared to buy this on cd.

The album u r referring 2 was released in 1986. Most (if not all) of the songs were recorded b4 Prince signed with WB in 1978. These tracks were highly reworked by Pépé Willie in 1985 so these recordings can be considered an album in its own right. Most of the original mixes seem 2 have been lost 4ever in the process.

A 1992 reissue included a multitude of other tracks from these sessions (see 1992 in the discography linked below 4 details), this time left as they were with no additionnal reworking.

Then, starting in 1995, Willie started to rerelease these sessions over and over under different titles, but none contained any additionnal song. It switched to being "94 East" releases to "94 East featuring Prince" and by the 2000's Willie had totally lost it and released the material as "Prince", which led Prince 2 say in an interview that he was considering legal action.

In 2002, 2 new songs were released as a single. Once again they were highly reworked to sound more contemporary, and the original recordings remain unreleased (though i think that Willie didn't trash them like he did in 1985, si it's likely that they'll surface at some point...).

WTF do people just ask and ask instead of actually searching for the info?

They needn't go very far: most probably there are 1000000000000000000000 threads about this here at the very org.

'Minneapolis Genius' is rubbish because tracks are 'updated' with 'updated mid 80s sounds'

The real deal is Symbolic Beginnings where, apart of these pastiches you can find the actual untouched tracks.

Tracks like 'If You See Me' or 'Games' are true masterpieces, imho.

Ever heard about the so-called SEARCH function?

Ever heard about Google?

Is it me who's looking for attention or is it the one who ask unnecessary questions whose answer can be found everywhere?

After hours and hours of efforts I got this!!

http://www.google.com/cse...;sa=Search

When google or the like can't help that's what forums are for.

Plus there should be a faq for newbies somewhere in this site.

But then again it's better to forget about homework and start a thread.

So who's looking for attention? Not me for sure. I don't need it.

In practice, I agree. However, there comes a point in time where there is no new news. And there's internet resources for every little bit of information.

^It's not only 'news' that we can discuss.

There are lots of historical Prince details to talk about.

There are astounding boots to talk about, even if most orgers don't give a fuck about them. It seems it's better to start 'what if' nonsenses.

But if we keep on discussing Pepe Willie's adventures like it was the latest discovery we won't get anywhere.

Again, in practice, I agree with everything you're saying. I would be up for "A Celebration"-type threads (as an example) about some of the awesome shit that's being put out right now. Those threads, however, often fizzle out (like the recent thread about 27v2, which is surprising cuz this show is release quality and amazing) or devolve into shit slinging fests because some people believe what they believe and others believe what they believe.

Then again, that's never stopped people from making threads.
