N.E.W.S. poll - rank the songs + your astrology since the news liner notes relate each song to different elements, i wanted to see if there was any connection between the 'main' elements in your astrology and the element of your favorite NEWS song
for example, my astrology is sun in libra (air) and moon in cancer (water). and i would rank the 4 songs from most favorite to least as: 1. North (air) 2. West (fire) 3. South (water) 4. East (earth)
thanks [Edited 11/25/10 5:52am] flowing through the veins of the tree of life...purplemaplesyrup

What? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Genesia said: What? I wasn't aware they were linked to elements...but they're all crap so, unless poo becomes an element, I don't think I can cast a vote, [Edited 11/25/10 7:12am]

I've always found those liner notes to be confusing, as he connects directions to elements in a way that's different to all other correlations I've seen (some differ between hemispheres, but North and South are usually either Fire or Earth, East is Air and West is Water).
Despite Taurus sun (earth), I have a lot of fire in my chart, and North is easily my favourite, which makes sense to me, but doesn't resonate with the notes. For me, East comes next, which could be the earthy Taurus but in the traditional system, my airy Gemini rising.
I love West too, but have never thought of it as a fiery piece - it's such a water piece for me, even down to the sounds of rain. I sometimes wonder if the compass placement was somewhat arbitrary?
That said, the album came out soon after TRC and during what could be considered the height of Prince's JW exploration, which would make it puzzling if he did draw on more pagan ideas (ie. elements -> directions), so maybe the liner notes were his way of separating it from the traditional wiccan view?
For anyone that's lost (yet interested), every star sign has an associated element.
Fire - Aries, Leo, Sagittarius Water - Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces Earth - Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn Air - Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
If anyone wants to know their sun/moon sign, you can message me

thanks for the clarifications! I didn't know about the traditional connnections between the directions and elements, so it's good to know! i find interesting the theory about him separating from the traditional wiccan view, perhaps one meaning of "new" directions in music?
