Does anybody not like "the song" One Night Alone? And why? I find that this is Prince singing from the heart and it never fails to touch me the way he lets his voice rise and fall. Okay so it has it's livelier moments but the soft parts are so haunting.
And just to reiterate, it's the song not the album I'm talking about [Edited 11/5/10 8:29am]

I love it, but i have to be in the mood to listen to it. There are plenty people who don't like it.

I hate the studio album (bar Avalanche) and the Live official release.
Absolutely love ALL the boots.

I like 'Avalanche' and that's about it.

More interesting than NEWS, C-Note or Xpectation (or the crappy NPG 2003-2004 albums) but still a nerdy album without true classics... Hell, if you're going to release a piano-only album, you better make damn sure that you have strong material (like Condition of the Heart, Anna Stesia, The One, etc.), but nooooooo....
but I do respect this little album, it's curious and worth a listen...

Better than 3121 & Planet Earth "Still Crazy 4 Coco Rock"

I did not like it. Had two copies and gave them both away.

The 82/83 piano rehearsals shit on this album 1000x as a 'solo piano album by Prince' (btw, ONA isn't a SOLO PIANO album).

very over-rated, imo.
as stated above, the piano rehearsals are a whole lot more entertaining/interesting

Sorry should have made it clearer. The song not the album.

I have tried to listen..... I fell asleep.
Prince 4Ever. | |

I like some of the individual songs a lot, but as a collection, I find it unsatisfying.

How the hell can one not like ONA?

Pearls B4 the Swine beats Animal Kingdom into second place for 'songs that mention cheese'.
blah blah blah | |

I love this song. I just made a non hits compilation for someone and this one is on it. I never heard the 82/83 rehearsals, are they of good sound quality?

I like 'Pearls..' | |

Those rehearsals are mega overrated. It's neat to hear Prince plinking around and whatnot, but there's no real actual songs. Just Prince singing in his Cloreen Baconskin voice for most of it and jazzy improv piano. It's ok, but not something you pull out specifically to hear. Not I, anyway. Would much rather listen to an actual song.

the song!
the ONA album is good too. i have to be in a certain mood to listen to the whole thing straight through though. How can I stand 2 stay where I am? / Poor butterfly who don't understand.

Agree with above poster. This song is pure "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -

Ok, sorry, this thread is about the song; I like it, great screams, great drama, great cheese, great playing...

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that song! "Tell me now, what's your name? I'll let it sweeten my tongue just once and never speak it again." What is your main problem?
To whom it may concern: I love you! Humankind..be both.

I prefer "HERE ON EARTH" & "U'RE GONNA C ME" from the ONE NITE ALONE piano cd. If U came 2 get your 'Purple Rain' on...U'RE IN THE WRONG HOUSE!!!!!!

yeah, that's what i'm thinking. i love all those songs. "young and beautiful" is a bit cheesy but the musical track to that one is at the very least still interesting.
beyond that there are some amazing songs on there. i consider it to be sort of a sister cd to "the truth", they both fall in the same category for me, with "the truth" having an edge over "one night alone".
wouldn't want to have to do without either one of those, they're both wonderfull.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Don't worry they do this all the time.
BTW - I love that song. both the live versions and the studio cut! Short, sexy and sweet! When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I like 'Pearls..' me too, that's why it beat Animal Kingdom! :) lyrics are fucked up though. First time I heard it, I wasn't paying attention and thought he said he'd offered her a balaclava. blah blah blah

You must not be hearing the same rehearsals as the rest of us. Yes, there are (very interesting) piano improvs but there's also Purple Music, 17 Days, Purple Rain, A Case Of You, Mary Don't You Weep, Strange Relationship, International Lover.
Last time I checked, those were actual songs.
Plus we find the only take we can aspire to of Wednesday and never before or since played exercises like Cold Coffee And Cocaine or Mama.
THAT beats the fucking overrated ONA album (which is NOT a 'Solo Piano And Voice' album).

I've loved it from the 1st time I heard it. I dig the instrumental more than his vocal on it.

I don't know what the hell some of you are talking about, it's one of his best albums to me. So intimate and non-pretentious, how much of his work can we say that about?

I like it. But there's a really obvious edit point that always grates on my ears (I think it's when the line "Do you like it slow" comes in). It's really obvious when you notice it, and hard to ignore it afterwards . But yeah, other than that, it's a nice song. Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com
