Why?
Those synths that sounds like what electronic snakes would sound like if they existed, reminds me of the analogy dirty synths from the 70's. The other standout insturment is the organ which whirls along the melody line- awesome stuff. Then theres the background vocals the "whoaaas" the "Billy Jack Bitch" parts that reminds me of sick P-funk stuff.

I love that track, really do. Probly my favorite next to Boom on that album. But I would consider it a straight up rock song, tbh. (That doesn't mean you have to, lol.)

Prince has really covered the funk spectrum and clearly some of them don't sit well with others. I personally wouldn't put the JB-esque "The Work" on a compilation w/, say, "Days of Wild", but they're both "funkier than a sack of granddaddies" (as P used to say). Some of my faves are: The Exodus Has Begun Days of Wild/Prince and the Band Freaks On This Side Laydown 1+1+1=3 F.U.N.K. Return Of The Bump Squad Get Wild Push It Up Ol School Company Face Down Now Billy Jack Bitch We Can Funk (any version) Chelsea Rodgers (yeah I said it!) DMSR Prettyman Partyman anything live Also, I always thought the end of the extended versions of LaLaLa HeHeHe, Theives In The Temple and Partyman are funky and the end of Everyday Is A Winding Road. The absolute best for me would be Housequake, but there are so many more that are nearly as good. Housequake has everything a great funk track needs, a tight badass beat, chicken scratch bass, sassy lyrics and a James Brown like feel and most importantly he sounds like he is having fun doing it.
