Origmnd is right. We should all pay attention to this earlier post and never make additional comments on the subject. Once it is written about online, there should be nothing else to say.

Thanx for pointing that out to us. We needed to be reminded of how this conversation started. Good job.

LOL! lol
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I hope his new album will have the live vibes of "trc" , I mean "real music by real musicians", but with some ROCK songs!

I would have loved to hear how he and Frank Zappa (RIP) would collabed together. Very interesting. Two of popular music's greatest geniuses.

Here's an idea: Prince goes back the basics and decides to make another claustrophobic pop funk album with songs that sound like '17 Days' and 'Electric Chair' rather than trying this free flowing funk stuff. Prince was NOT a 'funk-man' when he released Purple Rain, which is the peak of his art, (no matter what anyone says about SOTT) I want more songs like Computer Blue and even 'When Eye Lay My Hands On You'.
Personally . I think we are all Boring with No Lives cause all we do is talk about Prince,Criticize and Gossip. I need a Horny Man is what I Need and probably so do most of yas. We are Sexually Frustrated what we R... Amen..!!! - zelaire

how bout he makes what he feels at this moment instead of trying to go back to the past making something contrived?

Sorry, but the Christ Corporation slogans and canned/forced funk on alot of Prince's newer songs are really difficult to resist when you know the man is capable of being so compelling.

I think he'd look like Sideshow Bob!

btw, how in the hell is "17 Days" a reggae song?

evillol sideshow bob...

and yeah..."17 days" ain't no reggae song!! what ya'll be huffin on?? disbelief

No, 17 Days is not a reggae song. Didn't say it was, y'all. Said he "dabbled" in reggae before. Dabbled, as in, he used a reggae element in the song. Check out the guitar part during the spoken part breakdown. Just saying it was an element that showed an interest in reggae. So he's probably given reggae some thought.
I still think Jimmy could teach him a thing or two about reggae and make for an interesting product. And, yes, a hookup with Buju Banton could be hot, too. I think it's intriguing to see what he could do with a more traditional reggae artist -- maybe Prince on acoustic guitar, sharin' vocals with Jimmy.
Sure, it's an odd combo, but what is being a Prince fan without dreaming about different challenges?

Ah well... we all know that Prince's bands don't last too long... once he feels he has done the jazz thing long enough no doubt he'll shake things up again smile

I absolutely loved The Rainbow Children - regardless of the heavy-handed sermonizing, I do like it when Prince has the balls to pursue his mad projects like that with few attempts to pander to commercialism.

This all said, I've probably had enough of the jazzy experimental Prince. I can appreciate that he is probably enjoying himself a lot with the new vibe, and he'll probably doing it for more years to come... but for his next studio album I fancy something a bit different.

So what would you all love to hear next?

  • I'd love another acoustic album like the Truth but better.
  • I'd love a guitar-funk album, Funkadelic style - a definitive piece of work to demonstrate Prince's absolute mastery of the instrument.
  • I'd love another sprawling "concept album" but something a bit dark and moody - where TRC was all sunshine and light, I'd like something with the vibe of the songs "Pheremone" and "Crystal Ball"... where Lenny had his great "Circus" album, Prince could do some nasty dark n moody funk, maybe with a political vibe to it.
  • I'd love Prince to call Jimmy Cliff and get some reggae vibes, just to hear what it would sound like!
  • I'd love it if Prince called up Chuck D and collaborated properly... Prince can bring his guitar, drum machine and the funky sounds, and Chuck can bring the rhymes. Can you imagine a true hiphop-funk merger between these two guys?

Of course, knowing Prince he'll surprise us yet again smile

All of those sound good, except the Chuck D thing. He's an awful rapper IMHO. So cheesy and shit. I can't stand his bit on Undisputed, but then I can't stand most of that album. Anyway, listening to someone like Chuck D and putting on The Roots or some Eric B and Rakim just makes u realise how shit Chuck D sounds.
