Prince and Auto-Tune

Auto -Tune become regular tool since Cher's Believe song.

Some artist are using it just as colour but

many musicians over use it like T-Pain.

In a recent times Prince started

using Auto Tune.

It seems that new Minneapolis sound

for Prince is

Linn ,synth and Auto-Tune.

What do you think of Prince

and auto tune

combined together?

I think he don't need it.

I would like if Prince choose to use Vocoder instead .

It's pretty much the same as him using tape speed to pitch vocals up or down. If it makes a sound then eventually Prince will use it.

Now what I'm really looking forward to is that album made with the jug of water, piece of paper and a comb that was mentioned in The Hits liner notes.

It is so NOT the same. Altering tape speed to affect vocal pitch sounds cool. I like it. Auto Tune sounds like a robot banshee screaming in my brain till I have a migraine. Have to hit skip... HATE IT!!

Thats your opinion.

It's a method of altering the human voice. The concept is no different than camille, it just sounds different.

I happen to like Autotune so....

You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

I don't mean it sounds the same I mean it's just another effect he uses to get the sound he wants

Wether it sounds good or bad is always a personal choice

Personaly I like the way he uses it

vitriol

Of all the resources Prince has been desperately using in the last years to try and sound 'in tune' with the crappy top-40 modern r&b, using Auto-Tune is the lamest thing I ever thought he could do.

Shameful, absolutely shameful.

And even more shameful is the fact that even so he doesn't get nowhere near the sales of the crappy 'artists' he is trying to imitate.

Prince is way to solid as a vocalist to need this crutch. I do not like the direction of his new sound.

Auto tune - the scourge of 21st century music!!! You don't need talent these days, just a computer and auto tune and, bingo, hit single!!!

Prince doesn't need auto tune.

Well I have a protools rig that has autotune plug inns and I also have an analog reel to reel recorder and I know how they both work. I also have a PGDip in location sound recording so I know a little about sound.

What about my comment is Pipping Up?

Prince has always used effects to disguise his voice, perhaps you remember the Cammile project perhaps you remember IIWYG or You've Got The Look.

He's not using autotune to correct a misstake in his performance he's just using it as tonal colour, an effect in the same way he used the tape speed variations as an effect for the cammile tracks.

For someone who doesn't "follow trends", it's an amazing coincidence that his use of auto-tune showed up at right when it became popular in mainstream music.

Auto tune has been popular for over ten years now. You're about a decade late, billymeade. I don't see Prince using it as a way to fit in. It's an EFFECT and he has always used vocal effects. Well, since the 1999 album, anyway. "Don't worry, I won't hurt you..."

I'm just saying...

yeah I do not see it any diffrent than any other method used to alter the sound of the voice.

it is not like he needs to use any of them to sing well. He just uses them to give an effect.
