According to the engineer who worked with Prince during the session for the track, Prince felt that the track was too dark.

It was included in an early configuration of the Batman album but was replaced with Batdance.

When I listened to it years ago I did not like it. Only because it seemed too dark. I won't play it to this day.

I think it's because the song kind of sucks. It seems half-finished and it goes on WAY too long. It's just repetitive and boring to me. I don't hear "dark". Of course, I never thought the Black Album was dark or evil or any of the other stuff people said. It just seemed like a Prince record to me. Just my opinion, though.

This is a great outtake. IMO, if you replace "Arms of Orion" with this tune, the Batman album instantly becomes better.

One of the best outtakes ever! No wonder it was left off the album...

A great outtake, I don't even mind the repetitiveness of it.

I agree.

I'm sorry, i Love Arms Of Orion, but would've sacrificed Batdance for 200 Balloons any day.

It would have fit the film better for sure. Most of the songs in the movie feel out of place.

I agree with that. The movie needed a little more "dark" music anyway IMO, I think the soundtrack and the film came out a little too "upbeat" (for this serious Batman fan). This would have been perfect for the soundtrack if he had possibly edited it down to a shorter, less-repetative track...

just watched Batman since it 1st came out last nite (didnt remember a single scene lol)... i gotta agree with Delirious26, it needed some edgier music. Plus i think stale ol' Jack Nicholson came across as a stale ol' Joker... meh. Now off to find "Dance w/ the Devil"...

and I really like it

But it does seem too dark...couldn't put that on my ipod

I don't get this "it's too dark" nonsense, what are you all, a bunch of fannies?

It's about as dark as daylight.

Kinda always reminded me of a John Carpenter sound track!!!

Maybe the same with others that feel it is too dark!

Other wise a great track!

One of my favorite out takes. Lemon Crush and Arms of Orion can be removed for 200 Ballons and Dance would make Batman outstanding

Thats the great thing now you can burn a CD however you wish and make any Prince Album better
