Is it wrong of me...

...to not really care about the upcoming arena shows? boxed

Don't get me wrong - I love a Prince show as much as the next person. But I'd much rather go to an aftershow. I just like the looser vibe - and the fact that he plays lesser known songs. Plus, since Prince no longer has a website (and thus, no presale mechanism), I know I'm going to have to pay an arm and a leg to get anywhere close. Not that I mind, of course. It's just that competing with a lot more people for those few choice seats makes it anything but a done deal.

I want to be excited - I'm just not there yet. pout

Oh, I know why I prefer aftershows.

I'm just musing on whether I want to travel for any of this (even somewhere as close as Chicago or Minneapolis), given that these are all arena shows, so far.

I'm excited about the arena shows and incredibly nervous at the same time. Part of me thinks the Welcome 2 America title means nothing, much like just about all of his post Rainbow Children titles. But the other part of me sees the title, as well as the storm clouds that seem to be brewing in the promotional photos, and worries: Oh, lord, Prince is going to be up on his bully pulpit preaching away about chem trails and unknown presidents and Jehovah and who knows what else. And that's a lot of money to pay to just be preached to.

Oh, well. I'm ready to pay the bucks and I'm definitely going to go.

It's all moot at this point, anyway. I'm totally booked in December - and he hasn't announced anything in the midwest. shrug

I've yet to see an aftershow...so I'm thinking on perhaps getting the cheap areana tix (or non at all) and gunning for the aftershow.. but should I wait for other shows? will there be other shows? NY would be THE place to see an aftershow...right? cause there sure ain't gonna be no aftershow in Boston. sad they roll the streets up at 2am.

ahhh...what to do?

"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok

Well I understand-he is essentially now two music stars in the same body. I think the early part of the decade taught him he could be both-a Rainbpw child intimate Prince where people can see his genius-and an O2 Prince where he can be a pop superstar. He has increasingly two audiences on the go

For me, it's not the arena-ness of the shows that dampens my enthusiasm. It's just that the NPGMC spoiled me so much during ONA and Musicology and the pay-off for camping in line at the Rio was so huge.

After 40+ shows, the thought of scuffling with The Great Unwashed via TicketMaster & LiveNation for a mere chance at the seats to which I've become accustomed -- fuck it -- the seats to which I'm entitled, dammit! -- is the very definition of injustice, I tell you! Attica! Attica! Attica!

Aftershows? Hell, yeah, they're always platinum compared to the mere gold that arena shows can be.

If I can't land in the first five rows at an arena show for an artist I really dig, forget it. Otherwise my Welcome 2 America strategy will be aftershow oriented.

Honestly, I don't care how I see Prince, I just want to see him. It could be in a arena, a small venue, hell it could be a closet and I would be happier than a pig in mud. He still excites me in a way no other artist can. He still has that magic that has captured me for the last 26 yrs. He hasn't lost anything. I can't wait to see what he does in Dec, big venue or small.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

See, that's just it. For the Rio aftershow I was at, I could have reached out my foot and messed with his stomp boxes, myself. (Or picked his pocket, if I thought he actually carried money. lol )

Being up in the nosebleeds for a large venue show just doesn't have the same appeal. pout

Man, I wish I was 18 already.

I hate having to not be able to be included in these sort of things.

Depends...if you are into some of the other artists that are going to be performing then I'm sure it will be cool, but it doesn't sound like this is going to be a normal Prince show so to speak. If it comes to Minneapolis then I'm there, and from history I'm pretty sure it will happen, but I'm not going out of my way to catch it with all those other artists on the bill.
