Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder were both child stars and there are therefore a lot of recordings of them singing when they were kids. But it made me wonder about the young Prince. Did he record anything as a child and are there any recordings of him singing? Would be interesting to hear what his voice was like before?

(And btw: When was the first time Prince entered a recording studio to record??)

But the first time that Prince entered into a recording studio was in December 1975.

It was Pepe Willie who employed Prince to play on some songs that he was recording at Cookhouse Studio (in Minniapolis i presume). These recordings were for Pepe's group "94 East."

No, prince played guitar on the recordings, he did not sing.

The first time that Prince recorded songs in a studio that were entirly his own was at Moonsound Studio in Minneapolis. This was in the Summer of 1976. Prince was recording songs that he had written along with Chris Moon, but he also recorded a number of his own songs, including, Baby, I'm Yours, Leaving For New York, Since We've Been Together and Jelly Jam.

I suppose it would, i'm not really a big fan of his very early recordings, except for the instrumentals.

That is why i don't think i would like to hear what he did as a child, if he did anything at all.

there is some question as to who wrote Baby. I recall that Chris Moon said he wrote it.

Page 35 "the other two songs in dispute , 'Baby' ... and "My Loce is Forever" bothe credites solely to Prince." (the other song was "Soft and Wet" which Moon co-composed.)

It would not surprise me if Moon wrote it, or had a hand in the writing of the track.

As we all know, Prince has not given credit to certain people for certain things where it is due in the past.

In saying that, Chris Moon gets a co writers credit on For You for Soft And Wet.

That may be very well so, but my question was really just if there ARE any recordings of him as a child so that it could be possible to hear what his voice sounded like back then. The QUALITY of the music is another story - I doubt I would like it myself, because I tend not to like his earliest records.

His dad prob. bought a tape recorder (reel to reel) , maybe for his own music, and there's prob. home movies we'll never see unless there's an in depth documentary about Prince where they'd need to include it, or a scrapbook style book taking still shots from it.

Whether or not those tapes exist... only Prince and his assistant(s), could answer that. Depends if he held on to everything he's ever written and recorded, and that someone didn't erase over the tapes.

He composed songs before he was a teenager, but I doubt his dad was thinking of having those songs registered and copyrighted...

I find them very interesting, especially when put in the context of one man's artistic evolution.
