If Prince Debuted in 1995... If Prince's first album was The Gold Experience, and his back catalogue was from the last 15 years (1995 - 2010) do you think he would still have made such an impact? I think he would still be noted as a very prolific writer and amazing performer. His legacy of the last 15 years is still stronger than most artists that came out in the mid 90's.

no, late 90's was the begining when the media started hyping up no talents like britney spears. The late 90's weren't a time for musicians like prince. Sure prince would have made an impact (atleast critically). But i dont think he'd be as successfull | |

If Prince made his first debut in 1995 with The Gold Experience, today he would be in a faint memory living in the shadows of Montell Jordan, Boys II Men and Coolio. As cheesy and corny as The Gold Experience is, I highly doubt anyone would have taken Prince seriously if that was his first release. | |

I think Prince would still have a legacy, and he likely wouldn't be compared to a certain performer as often (which would be a plus). But what did Prince reinvent or innovate in the 90's? Not hip-hop, maybe some pop, he did good with rock though, and I feel he did help influence neo soul with songs like Eye Hate U, but nothing was as innovative as the Minneapolis Sound of the 80's. And his proteges of the 90's were Rosie, Tony M, Mayte and other tragedies (Carmen Electra...). That's not as awesome as Sheila E, The Time, and The Family (although Rosie is definitely talented). His image was kinda the same for several years in the 90's, while in the 80's every year he was reinventing his look.
