When Doves Cry in relation to the recording of Around The World In A Day Just a random curiosity...
I seem to recall a statement by Prince that ATWIAD (the album) was, at least partly, written/recorded before the blockbuster success of Purple Rain.
Also, if I recall correctly, When Doves Cry was the absolute last song recorded for PR, during March of '84.
Were any of the ATWIAD tracks recorded during the same session, by chance??? I'm just kind of curious where it fits chronologically.

WDC recorded 1 March 1984, Pop Life was recorded a couple of weeks earlier, and Paisley Park a week or so after.
Check princevault for the individual song pages, they list the recording date (if know), it's fast replacing my copy of the The Vault as the go to resource for nerd info like this

The first known recordings for Around The World In A Day were in Feb and March 1984 when prince recorded Pop Life and Paisley Park at Sunset Sound in L.A. Temptation was also recorded during these sessions. The last song added to purple Rain was Take me With U which was originally recorded for Apollonia 6, this song was added to PR in April 1984, in March 1984 PR did not yet include Take Me With U as it contained a longer version of Computer Blue. It is not clear what the exact date that When Doves Cry was recorded, but it might have been between Nov 7th '83 (when the first PR test pressing was made, When Doves Cry was not included on this) and March 23 '84 (this is when the second configuration of the album was made). The final configuration of PR was made on April 14th '84, which included the newly added Take Me With U. The title track Around The World In A Day was recorded on 16th Sept ''84 and the last song recorded before the PR tour began was Condition Of The Heart in early Oct '84. Hope this is of help to you?

An early version of Raspberry Beret was recorded in 1982. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Thanks! This is actually, exactly what I was looking for... I always figured that When Doves Cry and Paisley Park had been recorded around the same time.

cool, Condition of the Heart was a type of script for Prince's upcoming movie which we later find to be Under the Cherry Moon

Prince started work on Around the World in a Day in January 1984 (which is when the title track was recorded).
Prince spent the first 4 months of 1984 in LA, shooting additional scenes for Purple Rain and recording at Sunset Sound. When Doves Cry was recorded during this period (in March).
Paisley Park, Pop Life and Temptation were also recorded during these sessions prior to the completion of Purple Rain. Raspberry Beret was originally recorded back in 1982 (though it was re-recorded in 1984), so it's true to say that half of Around the World in a Day was recorded prior to the (June) release of the Purple Rain album!
The rest of the Around the World in a Day songs were recorded during 1984. America was recorded in July, a few days before the Purple Rain movie opened. Condition of the Heart was recorded in October (just over 3 weeks before the Purple Rain tour started). The Ladder and Tamborine were recrded during the Purple Rain tour. The Vault book states that Around The World In A Day (the song) was recorded on 16th Sept '84. So this is wrong?

and this songs is directly connected to the birthday of David Coleman because Prince gave him some studio time 4 his B-Day, David Coleman being the composer of the song, which was more of a band/vocal session.
