Funny though, Prince himself offered to be the opening act for anyone who thought he could not deliver--specifically D'Angelo & Beck who were critical of his new music in a joint interview.

I actually think Prince might enjoy opening for U2 and ripping it up, but he would do his normal thing, medleys and all, and it would still go over well just as it does now in his own shows.

The only problem with the OP is the notion that U2 is somehow not great in concert themselves. Part of it may be the crowd's enthusiasm (like Springsteen) but Prince would not be guaranteed of blowing U2 away whether he has a tighter band & better songs or not.

The first 10 minutes of the SOTT film blow away U2's entire career. That is not that Prince that would show up though. I'm scared the one with all the female singers, and the cover songs would, and U2 of 2010 would blow that Prince away. Even the 2004 Musicology Prince would probably dust U2 off pretty nicely. The one I suggest in my post would kick U2's ass every night. Sadly, we all know that Prince just does whatever he feels.

Right. Prince opens for NO ONE. Maybe - and it is just a maybe - if they figure out how to bring back Jimi Hendrix and get onstage. Other than that, I don't see anyone on earth who can headline over Prince on a tour.

Well I dont know about the U2 part, but the horn part: spot on. NO horns in LGC. It's a freaking rock-song and should be treated that way!!!

I think this would not be a bad idea at all. I agree that it may challenge him to really "bring it" as his ego would really be in full force to kick their ass nightly. He seems to be destined to share the stage with up and comers who are ego feeding not challenging. Plus the make up of U2 is way too "melaninly" challenged for Prince these days. I think even for his band these days there is a new rule that says white males need not apply.

Prince...the greatest musician ever to walk this earth...open for some lame band like U2? Hell nah!! I don't care how much money they've made or how many tours they sell out, so does plenty of lame entertainers! Prince is better than that...he is the star of the show, not the opening act!!

I am going to cut you some slack since this topic started before P sold out his two shows at MSG.

Do you really think his career is in such a state that he needs to open for anyone right now?

In addtion, I think you are letting your dislike of P's rnb side cloud your thinking. He can bring it as good as any rock act but most P fans like variety and you are not going to ever get that with U2.
