What the HELL is MJ doing in this thread? Let it GO people. They are just sunglasses. So not a big deal.
I'm glad the video is out cause I was at that damn conference like I wish people could hear what I'm hearing cause I was thoroughly confused.
I personally would prefer Prince to just go out on his own with his own band like he's doing with those overseas dates that were just announced, and either have an Apollo residency or some dates across the US, but I **guess** this is okay. I have nothing again Janelle Monae or Sinbad or any of the other folks he mentioned but I don't really WANNA see them, I wanna see Prince... JUST Prince. I guess he's trying to use his celebrity to get other folks some shine. Great. Fine. Whatever.
The only show I can see myself excited to attend is the one with Mint Condition because I really really like them. Other than that... this is just meh for me. Prince esta muerto...

5 Things That Scream Out In This Thread...
1. Prince is still a cryptic bastard.....
2. Given the rumors that the concert series will be at Harlem's Apollo (makes sense when you factor in that Prince will be doing some charity for the Harlem Children Zone), folks complaining that there's not enough time to make plans to attend the gigs are missing the point...Trust me people...Just from living here for well over a decade, I can tell you that a) New Yorkers do shit at the spur of the moment...and b) There are enough tourists in NYC on any given night to fill up the Apollo...
3. There's a deep hatred for Sinbad...lol...While I don't hate the guy, I do think he's severely played out...But I did like him in that crazy ass episode of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia....
4. There are some Orgers who clearly have no use for what most people would label as "black music"...I even hear some people shitting on Janelle Monae of all folks....I'm sure she's a had a few bad shows in her lifetime (hi Bart), but I can testify just from covering her shows a few times, that Monae is a kick ass live performer...and that's whether she's doing James Brown splits as one person dismisses or going all eccentric new wave (To whom it may concern...black folks can actually channel their inner James Brown and Laurie Anderson....We are more than just our "blackness")...
5. I've hung around David Bowie fans; Michael Jackson fans; Bruce Springsteen fans, Radiohead fans, Nas fans, Madonna fans, U2 fans; Outkast fans, ect...And I can say without a shadow of a doubt that a lot of the more hardcore Prince fans are the most miserable sacks I have ever encountered...Yikes...
There are some Orgers who clearly have no use for what most people would label as "black music"..
Co-Sign- I wish some orgers had the balls to admit it. You do not like RnB music and you do not want P to be around black artist because you cannot and will not except that RnB is his foundation and unlike a lot of RnB acts who crossed over to pop he never kicked RnB to the curb.
Get over it already.

not saying that he can't, however there are those that traveled from around the world to see him in vegas, why not come 2 NY this time and do it again? man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81 |

Wow I am remembering why I faded out from the 'net... this thread is hilarious. Especially touched by an angel are the MJ/Prince posts. HAhahahahaha
These shows/this line up may not be pleasing to some hardcore folks, but there is a huge market in NYC for this showcasing of some of the best of the black musical tradition (yes I said black music and I don't feel the need to define it).
So those who don't want to go, please, stay home. But you won't be causing Prince, LiveNation, or their bank accounts any harm. These shows stand to sell quite well, if priced well. You guys can say what you want about his sunglasses being the same as MJ's but it's really the whole look. When I first saw that picture of Prince, the first thing I thought was - damn he dressed the same as MJ did at his last press conference.
Say what you will but there is a similarity, and it's kinda weird.

Great.... Prince announces he will bore us with more performances of people we dont wanna see. Woo Hoo
I have an idea... How about announcing a PRINCE TOUR where we can see PRINCE perform HIS songs.
i have no problems seeing opening acts but even better how about a prince show where he performs songs only from the last decade
So you want him to get the worst concert reviews of his career?
You must really hate the guy. |

Prince spent most of his career playing all types of music will artists of all races. He's moved away from that so naturally, many fans won't follow him. Most people who like Purple Rain won't like 20Ten. |

Ok.
I'm glad he's an ambassador of sorts, and...it fills his ego somewhat.
But the last few highlights of shows I've watched online have sucked...he's gotta kill that band, or just go stright into the studio and never come back, there's no passion.
I figured his music would get better with time.
Straight talk...he's resting on his laurels, at least right now.
Inscrutability times ten, our boy is. |

Laugh all you want. Prince hasn't been a major player in the music industry in almost two decades. When he makes a rare appearance somewhere like on the Superbowl, only the hits really fly with the audience. How many average music listeners who love Prince's older catalogue are demanding to hear more of his new material? His new music sucks and everyone but the "fams" know it.
So flip this all you want on me. I'm living in reality. And in the real world, Prince's music makes sense to no one, but himself..... and a few of his drones. |
