1982-triple threat [1999] tour - was anyone here lucky enough to go?. I must be in major retro mode. Watched a pro shot [i.e. single fixed steady camera that zooms in and out and shifts left to right if lucky!!!] triple threat gig from MPLS called the 'Homecoming'. What a show, Vanity 6 at their sexiest out of tune best, the Time at their funkiest and P and the Rev with the air of the megastar apparent!. What a show! - P only didi 12 songs but it was so tight and focussed. Was anyone here lucky enough to witness any of the gigs, if so please share your memories.

i missed that. was too young to go. I did catch the shows prior to PR, I think it was the controversy tour. it was prince with the revolution... but I think the billing was just "Prince", and the Time, and Roger with the Zapp band.
Contrversy with the Lord's Prayer was the newest hit and Cool was the big hit for the Time and I think More Bounce to the Ounce was for Zapp.
Andre was still in the band. He got sick and had to go the the ER after the concert. My mom is a nurse and he was brought to her hospital that night. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

You were too young to go to the 1999 tour, but not a tour prior to that? TRUE BLUE

My wife was at that Bloomington, Minnesota "Homecoming" show. I had to see it on a boot. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

yeah... I could not con my mom to letting me go to concert at 14, but by 15 going on 16 I was able to CONvince her that this was okay. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

I was all set to go. then I sang along with Let's Pretend We're Married and the 'I'm not saying this to be nasty...' phrase while sitting next to mom in the car.
no concert for me.

So you're saying :
- Controversy Tour (1981 - 1982) - you were able/allowed to visit - 1999 Tour (1982 - 1983) - you couldn't visit because of your age
Doesn't make sense lol

Me I went twice. The tour I missed was Controversy. I spent summers in Detroit & remember people telling me how incredible it was. [Edited 10/9/10 5:59am]

I didn't go to a concert till I was grown and out of my parents' house.
Funny store though...Several years ago, I worked with this guy who was about 10-15 years older than me. I was in my late 20's.
Anyway, he knew I was a huge Prince freak, and we were talking about it one day and he said that years ago, a long time before he knew who Prince was, he was visiting a friend out in Minneappolis. His friend kept going on and on about this new band that had been playing the clubs, and he just had to see them. So they went down to some club, and out walks the singer wearing underwear, leg warmers and high heeled boots!?! He thought, "WTF???" and wanted to leave, but his friend made him stay. He said it turned out they were an exceptional band and really tore it up.
I was freaking out, "do you know you saw Prince perform before he was famous????????"

My parents were great. The first concert I saw was Ohio Players while in grade school. My parents took me to see James Brown, Parliament/Funkadelic and allowed me to attend many others. The first time I saw Prince I was 16 (1999 tour) [Edited 10/9/10 6:04am]

I guess I am messing up the tours. I went to concert just before PR. Vanity did not appear at concert but did appear in some concerts during that period but not our concert. Earlier that year the triple threat tour came through but I could not go.
not sure the name of concert tour. This was 1982/1983. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

^^
just checked the calendar. the triple threat tour came to my town 2x. in december and again in February.
the december concert was on a monday. I am sure I was not permitted to go and i couldn't convince Mom to let me go.
february concert was on a Friday. Zapp appeared so I presented it as a "Zapp" concert. although it was the same tour... V6 did not appear... but did appear in Detroit, 60 miles away.
When Cymone ended up in ER my mom found out it was Prince concert... her nurse friend let her know that one of the rock stars was brought in. She thought it was Prince. And she gave me hell when she realized that THAT was the concert I went to.

This was my first Prince concert. I saw it 3/21/1983 in my hometown of NY. I became a major Prince fan that night. It was only a double threat show though-only V6 and Prince performed (onstage). I believe that Time backed V6 from behind he curtain. I did not know that at the time. [Edited 10/9/10 16:36pm] To GOD be the Glory!

yup.
You know who else I saw...even earlier than that? YOu won't believe it 'cause I don't believe it and *I* was there...
I spent the night with cousins and ask my mom if I could go to the concert with them... (some of them were adults). She said "yeah, go ahead". I was hmm, 12 or 13.
I saw PARLIEMENT/FUNKADELIC/BRIDES OF FUNKENSTEIN and...BOOTSY COLLINS!
When my mom saw a news clip of THAT concert... with George on stage wearing nothing but feathers and a diaper...
she looked at me in shock and said "whaaaaat???!!"

Yes, I was lucky enough to go! I was in 10th grade, and I had convinced one of my friends to wear a camisole under a trench coat! Much to her surprise, that wasn't an original idea once we got there! We had binoculars and I was so excited to see Vanity perform with her freshly cut bangs! Hotness! The show was awesome! If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!
