WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL.... About Prince and his makeup, the clothes he used to wear, his high heels and all the other stuff folk use to question his manhood?
Consider...
Prince is a product of the 70s/80s where flamboyant clothes and excess makeup were common. Think disco and heavy metal. Can you recall male bands or solo artists that didn't dress weird, have long hair or wear makeup?
16th Century European men's fashion commonly included, tights, frills and high heels for men. Don't forget those french guys and their painted on beauty marks. So basically, Prince wasn't doing anything that had not been previously done.
The more flamboyant you are the more attention you get. Many artists set out to shock us and then once they became uber famous and seriously wealthy they....toned it down and became middle of the road. Madonna is no longer selling "SEX" books, David Bowie is no longer wearing lipstick, Earth Wind & Fire have forgone the high heel boots and glitter. And of course our boy Prince no longer wears ass less pants.
Prince still wears makeup and heels for two reasons: 1) he's old and needs to look young to sling that 20/30 something pussy and 2) he's short....no matter what he tells you he has already had issues with his height and every little inch helps to make him feel not so short. Most shorties in the biz are wearing lifts...bet you didn't know that.
You've all been hoodwinked and good for you! Prince did whatever it took to get your attention and now you're a fan for life. Don't say you aint cuz you IZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Feel free to refute anything I have stated.

Since this is clearly a pointed conversation, why not ask it where it should be asked - in the thread you found it.
None of this stuff is revelatory to most people and no one gives a shit about his makeup or clothes. I'm sorry you are petrified of Prince being considered gay or queer icon, where this discussion came up, but it's not a big deal.

I'm sorry you don't get the humor of the post and are petrified that Prince is not as original as you may have thought.
Oh and um...speaking of other threads....why didn't you make your statement in that thread ? Perhaps you are pretrified that Prince might be straight, that his earlier images are actually still relevant to most people. Think about all the picture threads we've had. They almost always are pics from his past. A past some people either choose to make fun of (with regard to his appearance) or choose to revel in (with regard to his music).

I didn't comment in the other thread because its a homophobic cauldron waiting to boil over and vainandy can hold up the gay representation in that thread. The rest of us in the Gay Kingdom Hall have other matters to attend to.

I can see this as a spin off thread. (ah...no pun intended) spin...you seem to have a hair across yo ass lately. grumpy...very grumpy. [Edited 10/12/10 13:01pm] "not a fan" yeah...ok

Well we almost agree. The other thread is a bit of a mockery of Prince in that an assumption is made about his style. It's also a bit of an insult in that an assumption is made that gays only like a person if they are flamboyant in some way - as if the music is somehow irrelevant.
This thread is to point out that Prince has merely reinvented images once lost/forgotten and he's taken contemporary images to a new level. I think it's all been a calculated business move to get him noticed. His music is fantastic but come on....it takes more than music to get and keep people's attention don't you think?

I like to think of it as a "spin up" thread.
