People who are eccentric and artistic have a lot going on in their head.

He's never admitted to taking drugs. As long as he holds his end up and give a great performance that people have paid to see him do, there's really nothing to know about it. He could easily behave strange because it could be due to lack of sleep and an overactive imagination. He might not see certain things as "drugs".

Smarties in the US have sort of a Rolaid or Tums kind of texture. They're basically a sweet tart. I've eaten my fair share, but never smoked any - It never really came up during childhood brainstorming sessions. But since they outlawed candy cigarettes, I guess the kids have to get creative.

I'm guessing Prince was really hittin' the happy-herb that night. Maybe his glaucoma was acting up.

I guess some of us want to hear that he really did drugs at some point of time, while some want to hear the opposite.

Whatever be the actual position, notwithstanding the screen caps, Prince consistently has had an anti-drugs stand throughout his career which is clear from many of his lyrics. While one may perceive his vague answers such as "I'm open to all kinds of experiences" as indicators to drug abuse, the fact remains that he has very clearly and categorically stated his anti-intoxicant stance in more than one songs / interviews.

Also people close to him have endorsed that he does not smoke or even drink though in past during his younger days he may have taken alcohol in more of a ceremonial manner.

Hence while both situations are possible and we are basing our arguments on hearsay, it is more likely that has not been a drug user.

I'm willing to bet that the people who say he's never touched an illegal substance in his life are the same people who think that his 00's output is on a par with his 80's output.

Which is ironic, because I think that people who think that must be high on illegal substances.

He says something to the effect of "fat joints never got you higher" in "Chaos and Disorder". He probably doesn't/didn't consider pot to be a drug, at the time at least. He's a MUSICIAN, he was certainly exposed to it, and though I doubt he smokes now, he sure did that night. Face it, he's a human being and he may not have the exact same viewpoint as any of us. I believe quite a few members of The Revolution (including some very infuential ones) were toking the reefer back in the day. Maybe... fuck it, think what you want.

Either he just smokes only sometimes, or it was just an act to appeal to the younger early 90s listeners who were into Snoop Dog, Dr.Dre, Tupac and other weed afficionados ( hence the mention of weed in songs like Now...."...roll us, lick us light us...light us up and take a hit." etc....I don´t know. Prince has always been against drugs and it is hard to imagine that he regularly smokes weed (okay, there´s the chemtrails paranoid talk and the conspiracy theories and a certain lack of drive these days but hey, I wouldn´t blame that on smoking weed.

I guess we´ll never know, and maybe that´s a good thing.
