he has done this for 30 years, music has been his life and the most part of his identity since he first fell in love with it.

its not something he can toss to one side and give up on just like that. its routine for him in a way that none of us knows.

music is the primary way he expresses himself and i dont think it would be right for him to stop doing that just because his current output is not as wow as his previous output.

he has people around him all the time, fuelling the prince machine, everything from ego boosts, laughing at his jokes when they aren't funny,

telling him how great and cool and smooth he looks, and how his music is just so great its like wow its fantastic 'our jaws were on the floor' etc...

i feel for him that he may not be able to discern between comments from people that are pure hype and those coming from a more genuine place.

he is a combination of incredibly naive, and egomaniacal, so you can imagine how he interprets input from others.

either way the upshot for me is that it isnt appropriate, nor kind, nor respectful to toss him out as a musician, like a used up toy, or a broken machine,

just because we might not be as stimulated by his newer releases compared to his earlier output.

he is a person, not a product with a use-by date, so just let him be the prince he wants to be and enjoy his life the way he wants to.

its probably all he asks for, as well as being paid fairly, which he deserves to be if that is where his focus is.

our opinions are only opinions, they wont change anything for better or worse in the long run, so my take on it is to enjoy the music i enjoy and leave the rest alone without slamming him for it.

It's so refreshing to read your comments from time to time. Haven't you been on here before under another name? It's pleasant to know there are still people around who express themselves in a normal way. You always hit the nail on the head positive or negative without being mean or rude.

No-one can deny all the gorgeous beautiful music he has made in the past and after 30 years it's all good. But though for me it's weird to see such a talented person make such non interesting music, so weird.

But P. deserves a lot better than the nasty and aggressive remarks that a lot of people make here on this site.

I enjoyed 20Ten immensely when it dropped and I still love it. Lay Down was really the only song I couldn't fully like for some reason. This snippet does nothing for me but maybe the full song is better? It doesn't really matter either way. I already got my Prince fix this year.

He hasn't done anything yet. And you obviously missed the bigger point, which was that I won't pay, say, $16.99 for "20Ten Deluxe" if all I'm getting is 2 or 3 new songs. What does it matter what I paid for 20Ten the Original?

And you DO know Prince did the same thing on Lotu$flower.com, right? I paid $77 and got three CDs. But if I wanted "Crimson and Clover", I had to pay $12 at Target for three more CDs - just to get "Crimson and Clover". So while Prince hasn't replicated this business model yet, there is precedent that gives cause for consideration.

I'm just not down with potentially being asked to pay $5/song but if you are, then more power to you.

I hope he adds 'Cause and Effect' to the album. It fits perfect IMO, esp as an opening track.

thank you for your kind comments. in my honest opinion i think all that's really happened with his music is that he has 'levelled out' and that is not necessarily a bad thing.

its like the difference between a choppy sea and a smooth lake. for me his music is the smooth lake these days. or the difference between a roller-coaster ride and the ferris wheel, which suits me just fine.

i'm older now, so as a listener i dont demand the same level of impact or excitement that i used to want to hear in music.

some may interpret that to mean his music is uninteresting or boring but i guess it just depends on where you can sit comfortably in yourself when listening.

in my opinion, people who are always looking for external stimuli to get them going, probably wont appreciate his current work.

being able to sit at peace with your self in a quiet, unbiased space, enables you to listen to his 'levelled out' vibe right now and just accept it for what it is, imo.

that being said, i agree there is an element to his work that is missing, and for me that is sincerity.

i hear him singing the words but i dont get the feeling he means it, like he's just going through the motions or he is trying to be something he used to be. it doesnt wash.

what i hope for him more than anything else is that he can make the right decisions for himself in terms of where he is going and what he is doing by asking himself 'why?'

does he still feel obligated to churn out records and do tours? is it money motivated? is it because it is all he knows?

not to say he should stop, but maybe sit back and remove himself from the distractions of celebrity (which tend to follow him wherever he goes) and just really evaluate his current position and priorities.

but that is just my thoughts on it, and no matter what he does, the main thing is he is having fun enjoying himself and making people happy through his music.

ironically, even though the negative comments about his music on this site and very strong, there are still a lot of very positive vibes and sentiments rolling in.

its just that the negative comments get more attention because they are so dramatic and tend to tug on our emotional chain more so than the positive ones.

guess it just depends where we put our focus, and what we want to engage in. maybe the same can be said for prince and how he might feel about the diversity of thoughts expressed on this site.

finally went back to listen to the snippet after sifting through the turd-posts and endless speculations. i like the arrangement (the little that i heard). sounds kinda different, some interesting intstrument combinations. heard some acoustic guitar but it doesn't sound totally "stipped down". our boy is always up to something. i'm excited!

Eh? You lost me there mate. I was referring to the posts on the site not the site admin. And the passion being missing was referring to Prince. He's made some good music as of late but definitely no "hits". Which is pretty poor for a pop star

How in God's name are you going to judge a song based on a 20 second sound clip? The song sounds pretty good to my ears, like decent 90s stuff.

My idea is that there will probably be a few new songs and some extended cuts of previous songs. This could be a test for the obvious extended versions of all his Warners albums. We can only hope.
