Well that worked.
Worst prince song in a long time (well since Purple and Gold, but that doesn't really count)
Awful!
I actually NEVER want to hear it again.

That's weird. It streams in Safari on a Mac for me. Maybe I have some oddball plug-in or something. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Yeah maybe. I got the stream page but no audio. It was actually better with no audio now that I think of it.

Isn't that a bit like the old riddle: What's heavier; a ton of feathers or a ton of bricks?
The implied judgement you've made is that you must be happier/more content/less stressed/etc... if you have money. But that to me is exactly the point of that line in the song;
ie. There's nothing worse than misunderstanding the point of money so much that you end up having tons of the stuff and still being as stressed and miserable as the one who's struggling at end of the fisherman's line (ie. trying to meet the bottom line).
I like the lyrics on this track. As with so many of Prince's songs, they can mean so many different things to different people, but it makes for interesting discussion

If it is released i certainly hope it is not called 20TEN Deluxe, that is just one lame title. "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

So our Purple friend holds a press conference of sorts just days after the airing of a new song and an announcement of a deluxe version of 20TEN, but yet he says nothing about the repackaged CD at said conference. I mean, we're used to boolshit like this, but... c'mon. The Welcome 2 America posters did use the same font as the 20TEN packaging, so I guess he hasn't moved away from the aesthetics of that project completely. Meh...
I'm starting not to really care. I'm too old for games - I wish Prince was. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

so is this french radio station the only place to mention the deluxe?
did they have their info right? not saying they didnt, but prince hasnt announced this release, nor has anyone else ...
are we on the right track here, trusting a couple of radio DJ's? this too shall pass

I started a thread about this very subject but it got locked. As squirrel said, Prince does not mention the album at the press conference at all, which i found a little strange. And look at the setlists (inc the one i posted in the 20TEN tour dates thread for the Norway show last night) for the so called 20TEN tour, not one song from the album played. I really am beginning to think that the proposed 20TEN Deluxe edition is not going to happen.
As a sidenote, i am looking forward to hearing Prince's version of Bridge Over Troubled Water, yes that's right, he did play that in Norway last night.

ah, but how much of it? just a snippet, or just the lyrics over some generic drum/guitar? and did he sing it himself or did "the girls" sing it?
my heart made a little jump to see that he'd added "pearls before the swine" to the set, only to then read that it was sung by his backing vocalists, just as "love thy will be done".
it's just sad that we've gotten to a stage where the most exciting thing in his concerts is an odd cover or one of his own lesser known songs sung by his backing vocalists or perhaps a 1 and a half minute accoustic version of a fabled outtake, which will then never be heard of anymore.

I don't know how much of it he sang, the only info i have is the setlist. I guess we will have to wait on the boot to hear for ourselves.

when the girls sing his songs, is that because he is leaving the stage to get changed? this too shall pass
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Man, that would be such a rotten twist for the hard core fans to get an obscurity performed... and then it's sung by the girls in back on the risers instead of Prince. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah, Bridge over troubled water was also sung by the girls while he was changing clothes..

It worked for me, too. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

how is it NO ONE knows anything about the release ?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
lol.... | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
so i'm guessing "rich friends" is another one of those tracks that will just fall between the cracks and get left behind, kinda like "cause and effect", "hot summer", "in a large room with no light 2009", "turn me loose" etc.
why he wouldn't sell that stuff online, on some basic site is beyond me. it's out there, played on radio or online, in sub par quality, with people talking over the beginning and/or end plus it's on bootlegs about a week after they are first 'released'.
does he really care that much about his music at this point that he doesn't care anymore if new tracks get to the public without a beginning or end or with someone talking all the way over the intro and fading it out 40 secs before the end? is that really the only way he's gonna let those songs be out there?
and this is the man who sues other people for miss use of his music

Best we keep it that way really. Listened to it twice now. Thank God I can do other things whilst listening to music else that would have been a few more minutes of my life that I wasn't going to get back.
Sorry but I'd rather listen to Take That than that track ever again.
