in my opinion, and i hope i'm wrong, the only genuine relationship he has in his life is with his music. he doesnt have anything else except his music and his money. they are the only two things he can rely on.
what would he do if he retired? sit round the pool with his wife and kids? go on holidays to the bahamas? work on his tan?
open up paisley park again as a tourist attraction and sit upstairs in a semi-coma? while everyone rolls in to see the freak-show exhibits?
attempt to enjoy banal and ineffectual metaphysical conversations with his latest frankenstein girlfriend creation and precious darling musical peers? whomever that may be?
sign autographs at the local kingdom hall?
do interviews about his career? write a book? a book which his fans will pick to death because lets face it, it isnt often he makes any real sense? print the book in prince-bonics and release it through tabloids only?
do another photo-book? another 'look at my face. look at me me me me me' book? i am legend? i am god? i am poet extraordinaire? king of sexy silky sheets?
maybe its better if he continues to record his music and release it and tour when he wants to, because when you think about all the things he could get up to as a retired person, his future is questionable at best.
did i change my tune? no. i'm just glad we can chat better now that you can appreciate the difference between saying he should retire vs 'putting him out of his misery'.
cheers Prince should never retire in my opinion. I usually agree with you Robinhood but you are wrong. Which is what you hoped to be. Prince has something more amazing than his music and money. They definitely are not the only thing he can rely on. I honestly feel Prince knows this and knowing this scares him because he's spent many years believing his music and money were the only two things he can rely on. I don't know why he wouldn't write his autobiography. I hope one day he writes his autobiography. I think it would only help him in the end if HE tells his life story. [Edited 10/29/10 5:08am]

Well, I agree with you of course: his retiremen will be completely frustrating for him. That's why... he or we should just put him out his misery! Stop the Prince Apologists ™

I'm kind of flattered you think that! It goes just to prove how passionately I care... about his OLD music! Stop the Prince Apologists ™

they are not fans just jaded people who (choose 1 option):
a) miss the 80s
b) miss the 80s and the first half of the 90s
c) miss the 01-03 era...

I cannot answer for 'them', I can only answer for me. I always put a STRONG effort into staying POSITIVE and I look at P's music like a gift. Being a fan has never been boring, I'll say that much. I know some people who are enthusiasts of P's music may just be frank and honest about what they think of his business practices and music or lyrical content. Some people will bite their tongues and say nothing here at p.org and some may just 'let loose' about what they think
Bottom line is, we are a community of fans and bottom line is we all love or like his music to some degree, just keep with that point of view and keep it moving ... [img:$uid]http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/3.gif[/img:$uid]

what is the other genuine relationship he has in his life? The relationship he's been having with his other half. I honestly don't know how long he's been in this relationship because "time is a TRICK".

oh yeah, that relationship - how silly of me to forget lol
well i hope it works out for him, but he doesnt appear to be too genuine about it.
he said his girlfriend brings him peace - so there u go. although last time i checked, doesnt every man feel at peace after a blow job?
anyway, i still think music and money are the only things he can rely on.
imo, he cant be trusted with anything deeper. and if a man cant be trusted, then what exactly about him is genuine?
cheers this too shall pass

You silly rabbit, I don't mean that relationship. LOL Prince didn't say his girlfriend brings him peace. It's been written he said this but I honestly don't believe those were his words. To get back on thread topic, I do believe Prince "lost it" when he decided to include his girlfriend's cd with his.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
no, you silly rabbit i meant he obviously isnt being too genuine about the relationship you mention, with his 'other half', if he's busy scragging about with his girlfriend who 'brings him peace' lol
but yeah, on topic, i dont think its appropriate for his fans to speak disrespectfully about him as a musician.
but if anyone would like to take a shot at him as a person, y'all can be my guest. this too shall pass

Trust me, it's not just him. Lots of older artists' newer material is lackluster or disappointing because when you've lived through the debuts and the really good stuff; everything after it is like a knock-off. I remember when 'Diamonds and Pearls' first dropped; I remember when 'The Gold Experience' came out and I rushed out and bought it and fell in love with Prince all over again. His newer stuff has moments of brillance and innovation, but most of it has been done already by his hands with only minor tweeks here and there. I love some of his newer songs because they remind me of older songs that he did with a similar sound.
He hasn't 'lost it' at all; 'Its' just not what it used to be because nothing is really new in music anymore. It's all been done and nobody is giving up anything innovative or unheard of right now and those who think they are obviously aren't very old and/or musically educated. Truly great and memorable music stopped being made back in the late 90s...sorry the new generation has to get screwed because they made their debuts a little late in this life cycle but what can you do about that?
Oh, well, I just appreciate that Prince still takes the initiative to write, produce, compose, and play his own instruments in a industry where miming, over sexualized imagery, and mindless drivel lyrics are now accepted as the norm and worthy of praise. Prince could fart into a microphone, record it, and put some instrumentals behind it; and it would still sound better than 90% of the shit they play on the radio in heavy rotation. I still appreciate the purple Yoda's musical contributions...his ginormous ego is another story. Prince Rogers Nelson

Actually...That's not the million dollar question...We all have the right to criticize Prince's music and still be fans...
The question is this: Why do some folks on the Org continue to equate postive support for an artist on their own "fan" site with being delusional robots? If there was ever a place an artist would get support at is on their own fan site, right?

I'm honestly not being disrespectful when I say he "lost it" when he decided to put the Bria Valente cd with his. It's just my opinion. LOL I find his fan's opinions about him interesting. People can say what they will about the man but nothing takes away the fact that he's one of the greatest musicians of all time. There's going to be disrespectful fans sharing their opinions, especially when many times Prince comes off as acting disrespectful and inconsiderate towards his fans. [Edited 10/30/10 12:08pm]

sure, 'every artist gets the audience they deserve', but i think the next step is 'be the better man'. freedom of speech and expression is very important imo, guess it just depends whether we want to abuse that right or not.
regardless of prince's ego-attitude in many instances, there's no healthy reason for us to perpetuate it by doing the same thing, unless we just feel better to get something off our chest,
but even then we can say things in a more diplomatic way, while still getting our point across.
i guess it just boils down to individual choice. i can be very negative and harsh when i really feel it necessary for whatever reason, but ultimately its healthier to be gentle.
btw, [prepare for rant] in my opinion, bria valente isnt a reflection of prince's true nature. she's a reflection of his ego and all the false beliefs he holds about himself.
gotta remember, this is a guy who stood back while all the girls in school passed him over for the tall dark and handsome guys.
no matter how successful he's been with his career, it hasnt been enough to remove that short-man chip from his shoulder.
being seen with a tall big-tit underwear model rates high on the list of someone who cares a lot about appearances and what other people think of him.
it makes him feel like a man, to be seen with a woman like that, because of his false belief about these things.
plus, he values trust above love. if she gained his trust, it wont matter to him if he doesnt love her.
he'll hang with her anyway because he can do so safely, which is pretty odd for a man of faith, to be so fear-based in his reasoning processes, but thats just the way it is.
he is as easily swayed by his lack of virtue as he can be by his better nature, and adding her CD to his lotusflower release might have been his way of letting some skeletons out of his closet on the one hand,
and being extremely weak and cruel on the other. this is only my opinion by the way.
in all honesty, he 'lost it' the second he allowed her in to his inner circle, but its not altogether surprising. his brains have predominantly resided in his penis for most of his life.
add to that 2 failed marriages and a loneliness that just wont go away, and its open season for desperation and weak-mindedness, especially when it comes to women.
re your comments about him being 'afraid' of his 'other half', all i can say is: fear of love is fear of life and if someone fears life, they're already half dead.
maybe he just feels safer in his comfort zone where 'everybody loves him'. its easier than tackling some of life's more imporant lessons and challenges.
the other thing is he may not want to burden 'her' with his life and all that entails, fame, hate from people, and he may even be protecting her from his own demons, which he might think will cause her trouble and pain.
he knows how much he can hurt people so he might think it best to stay away. he knows the strength of his own poison.
but even so, its still a very selfish perspective on his part, which ultimately reveals his level of maturity, or lack thereof.
his morose tendency to assume his perspective is ultimate ruler over any situation is a very slippery flaw of his, which tends to land him in the laps of those with ingenuine agendas.
he'll color his world a lovely shade of love, in an effort to convince himself that love is actually present, when its not. this way he doesnt have to take any risks or face any internal challenges.
just tells himself he already has everything he wants, and he believes it. some sort of delusion and denial that a lot of people do every day.
over-all, prince manipulates reality to conform to his egoic views. he can be very vain you know. this is man who uses bible scripture to justify sex with any one, whether he loves them or not, for example.
he takes sacred teachings and philosophies and twists them to suit his own egoic situation.
a guy like that can justify himself any way he likes. but its pretty easy to see straight through it. in this regard he's no different to the adolescent who refuses to listen to his parents good advice.
let him learn the hard way, most of the rest of us do, so why not him? but you do realise the chances of him learning anything much at all these days is pretty slim right?
you see all these girls thinking 'oh, i can change him. he will come around. he's my handsome prince. my knight in shining armor. he'll be alright once he's with ME" < such a dangerous and naive delusion imo.
anyway, he seems to be njoying himself with these new shows, and the welcome to america thing is just around the corner too, so at least he's busy with work and doing what he loves.
whether or not he makes any affort to address his inner self at some point is up to him i guess.
cheers and take care this too shall pass
